I always love seeing how much the baby puppies grow over the course of our classes 🥰

It’s hard to tell in pictures, but these two almost double in size from start to finish!

Basic Skills Class Grads (minus one) 🎓

Congratulations to our latest Basic Skills graduates!

Over the last few weeks, these teams have worked on engagement, focus around distractions, real-life skills, and learning how to navigate the world together. We’ve also spent time helping our dogs learn how to settle, regulate their excitement, and make thoughtful choices in challenging situations.

Thank you to everyone who joined this class and trusted me to be part of your training journey. It’s been a pleasure watching the progress each team has made and seeing the relationships between dogs and their people grow stronger each week.

Remember that training doesn’t end when class does. Keep practicing, celebrate the small wins, and enjoy the journey with your dog.

Congratulations everyone, and I hope to see you again in future classes! 🐾

Puppy class grads 🎓

A big congratulations to our puppy class graduates!

Over the last few weeks, these puppies have worked on confidence building, puppy life skills, appropriate play and social interactions, handling exercises, enrichment, and more. We’ve watched them try new things, build skills, and grow in confidence each week.

Great job everyone!

We’ve been BUSY the last week or so! Sorry for the delayed responses.

Remi finished two legs towards his CARO Rally excellent!

Susie got her SDDA Started title and her Advanced Interior (scent work), and she got to do her favourite thing ever yesterday, sprinter!

It was so nice to see clients come out and try sprinter for the first time!! The dogs were all so happy to be there and had so much fun 😊

I’m sure I’m missing pictures, but I’ve included a few of them!

Basic Skills - Week 3 🐾

I typically follow a curriculum, but the dogs were feeling extra excited this week so we adjusted to meet them where they were at.

Instead of working through new skills, we worked on calmer behaviours, engagement, and helping the dogs learn how to make better choices around distractions. These skills are so much more important than obedience skills and help set them up for success moving forward.

Susie and Juno also helped us clean the hall in prep for the scent trial on Saturday!

Puppy class - week 3 🐶

This week we continued building confidence, practicing puppy skills, and working on appropriate play and social interactions!

We also introduced the puppies to a muzzle in a fun way. Muzzle training is a great skill for all dogs and can help reduce stress during situations like vet visits, grooming, emergencies, or injury recovery. My goal is to help puppies see the muzzle as a predictor of good things, not something scary.

Like crate training, I believe introducing these skills early helps puppies feel more prepared and comfortable in the future!

I also had a small group out last night to work on sport skills and I love these kinds of sessions so much!

For me, sport training is about a lot more than titles or ribbons. I’m not a fan of pushing dogs to trial if the environment negatively affects them. I want dogs to feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely understand what I am asking in different environments before we ever worry about performance.

A huge part of that comes from building behaviour fluency and generalization. Dogs need opportunities to practice skills in new places, around distractions, and in different setups so they can really understand the game instead of just memorizing one picture.

I also strongly believe sport training should be fun for both the dog and handler. I use a lot of games in my training, and if my dog doesn’t want to play, I see that as information. Instead of forcing it, I ask myself why they don’t want to play. Is the environment too hard? Is my dog stressed, tired, confused, or uncomfortable?

Our dogs give us a lot of feedback if we’re willing to listen to it!

Also, shoutout to Maverick and her mom for coming out for their first time, trying new things and absolutely rocking it!
