We are a rabbit rescue who specializes in special needs, medical and behavioral rabbits No more dumped buns.

CLOSED TO ALL INTAKES

We are a registered non profit rescue with Service Alberta, since 2015. As we have grown and adapted to the needs of the buns that come into our care, we have become a sanctuary for older, behavioural issues, and medical case rabbits. We educate bun guardians and people that want to bring a bun addition into their lives that it is a lifetime commitment.

TELL ME ABOUT GASTRIC DILATION (BLOAT) IN RABBITS 2️⃣of2️⃣

✔️Treatment and Survival
Immediate intervention is crucial:
- Hospitalization for intravenous fluids to treat shock and dehydration
- Pain relief and active warming
- Gastric decompression by passing a tube or—if unsuccessful—emergency surgery to remove the obstruction
- Repeat x-rays, continuous monitoring, and post-operative care
Prognosis depends on how quickly treatment starts and the blockage’s nature, but even with prompt care, not all rabbits survive.
✔️Prevention and Risk Factors
Gastric dilation is not linked directly to diet quality, though fiber-deficient diets may encourage over-grooming or chewing of fibers that lead to obstruction. Regular grooming (especially of long-haired rabbits), avoiding access to carpets and fabric, and maintaining environmental enrichment may help reduce risk.

Gastric dilation requires prompt recognition and intensive care. Any rabbit with sudden abdominal distension or collapse should be seen by a vet immediately for the best chance of survival.

Wow, St. Albert bunny friends!!!!! You really showed up for us on Saturday. We can't thank each and every one of you enough for your support. We raised over $400.00.
Here are some pics of some of the buns. Unfortunately, we didn't get everyone.

Today was cleaning day for the buns. Harley was busy at work packing her hay into her box for her nest. She even dragged the blanket into it. I hope this doesn't mean we are in for a cold winter.
She is mad now after I cleaned up her floor, but I did t tough her box.

🐰HAPPY INTERNATIONAL RABBIT DAY!🐰

International Rabbit Day is a global awareness event that celebrates the joy of rabbits while promoting their proper care and protection. It’s a day to recognize both pet rabbits and their wild cousins, advocating for better treatment, informed adoption, and compassionate care!

We love our bunny patients at South Side Animal Hospital and hope you will join us in celebrating these magnificent creatures! Drop a photo of your bunny below and tell us something you love the most about them!

Although one may think they are doing the right thing in wanting to harness (or collar) and leash a bunny so it can go outside, this is actually a very dangerous situation to put the bunny in.
As rabbits are prey animals, they generally do not respond well to the restrictions of a collar or harness; it can result in panic, then being tangled, strangled, or a getting a broken back or neck from the incident.
Unless perfectly fitted, there is a good chance that a rabbit can escape from a harness... and recapture is not always easy, or even possible.
In addition to all of the other potential dangers (other pets, wild animals, birds of prey) that may scare your bunny if you take them outside, there are also things such as fleas, parasites, w**d killers, fertilizers, the potential for heat exhaustion, and RHDV that need to be considered. Any of these could lead to a sick bunny needing a vet visit - and some could have fatal consequences.
Bunnies are not missing out - they are happy to exercise safely and enjoy enrichment activities indoors, thereby eliminating the outdoor risks to their health and safety. ❤ 🐰 ❤

Stellie is confused about who should be doing the turn down service. He is the one boarding and is the only one who gets to stay in Aunties room.
