Who was Jane Casselman?
We would like to reintroduce you to our namesake. Jane was a dedicated horse woman for all 68 years of her life. Jane opened Touch N Go Farms in Campbellville ON which became a well known location for sales horses and horse shows of all levels. In 1983 Jane joined a group of forward thinking women who were inspired to bridge the gap between local schooling shows and the ‘A’ circuit. Shows were to be held at various local venues with divisions running over one day to allowing riders to commit to one day of showing instead of multiple. Jane was inspired by this circuit and became very dedicated to its development, eventually become president of the THJA for multiple years. Jane was a crucial part of putting together the first Trillium championships in 1983 and its growth into the show we know it as today.
One of Jane’s favourite divisions to watch and judge was the Equitation division, both over fences and under saddle. In tribute to Jane’s love of equitation and her outstanding contributions to the THJA, the association is proud to sponsor the Jane Casselman equitation ride off at Championships. The top two equitation riders from each division at championships are invited to compete in the ride-off. This class has been an incredible goal for riders to work towards and is always a show highlight.
The idea for the Jane Casselman Memorial Trillium Show was brought to life through Cindy Ballantyne, Carra Brick and Evin Ballantyne. A show to celebrate Jane and everything she loved about horse showing and the THJA. Fun and community are the foundation of this horse show with specialty classes and prizes being the icing on top of a wonderful weekend.
Jane loved this sport, loved her family and friends and we are honoured to be able to celebrate her through this horse show.
We look forward to seeing you again this year.
Have a happy day! 💚💛
