As a vet student, I along with the rest of the veterinary community was very disheartened by CBC’s article.
In light of this, I am looking for ways to help the community as someone with knowledge in veterinary medicine but not yet licensed to do all the major diagnostics and procedures.
What I can do is help to provide preventative care. One common issue that can be prevented early on, is dental disease. For $30, I will come to your home and help teach you and your pet about dental care and brush their teeth. Brush included! I know some owners struggle with this as some dogs/cats aren’t very cooperative for it. Hopefully with some practice it will be something that owners can do on their own after a visit or 2. There are many methods we can try.
Should this replace an annual dental exam by your vet? No. But dental care is one thing that if neglected can lead to serious dental disease, discomfort for your pet and a very costly vet bill.
If there is enough interest, preventative teeth cleanings will be added to my list of services in the next few weeks in addition to my nail trims, ear cleanings, gland expression and sanitary clips. Please send me a message if you would be interested.
