The most dangerous period of time is over, as now the girls have bonded to each other. It’s much easier for mom when they are always together.

I’ve only ever had one cow successfully raise twins all on her own. Dottie has had a couple of girls for me again!! Pic of her daughters from a few years ago. Usually twins ends up with me feeding one of them the bottle.
Cows and humans have twins about 1% of the time, but humans have fraternal twins about 67% of the time, with cattle it’s closer to 90%.
Penny and Poppy are the new WP crosses. Jackie and Jill are now five years old.

Some of white park crosses have started to arrive. Still amazes me to see them jumping around within a day of birth.

It’s been a darn cold way to start, but this calf born Jan 31, is big, healthy and thriving!! That’s a good reflection of her mother’s abilities, and are obviously good genetics to multiply in the herd.

Just a montage of white park cattle pics. Have to admit they look a bit more majestic with a green background vs all the snow!! The green will come soon enough and hopefully some nice healthy calves will follow.

Well it was just a matter of time. “Old big cow” lay down the other night and decided she didn’t have another winter in her. As the herd matriarch she was a force to be reckoned with ( ie horns trimmed for a reason), and her genetics dominate my little herd of White Park cattle. This past year she didn’t have a calf, but she did in 2024 when she was 16 years of age!!

Since the sheep have left, I’m not sure I have a real need for Ruby, but she is such a great donkey. Her instinct to protect clearly extends to the calves!! She just follows them around, even tends to herd them a bit!!

I have patellar tendinitis, and since I don’t play volleyball or basketball I can’t call it jumpers knee…so I’m calling it farmer’s knee. I also have golfers elbow and tennis elbow, neither of which I play, so while different muscle groups and tendons I think I will call them both farmer’s elbow. And since I’m not a pitcher, I can’t have pitcher’s shoulder, so you guessed it, I’m calling it farmer’s shoulder.

Movement is good, just some days…and I think any more than two concurrent areas of tendinitis…I’m just calling it farmer’s body!!
