Desi is our birthday boy today. 🐄💙

He came to us at just one week old, and we learned very quickly that bottle feeding a calf is both a big job and a fast way to fall completely in love.

Desi has always had the kindest way about him. He loved people right from the start, and when Lucy arrived soon after, he was so gentle with that tiny piglet it stopped us in our tracks.

Now he’s our big, steady boy, still happy for treats, scratches, and a little fuss from his people.

Desi is also available for sponsorship. Sponsoring him helps with his hay, vet care, and all the daily things that keep him comfortable here.

Happy 13th birthday, Desi. We’re so lucky you started this part of The Herd with us.

Humphrey is looking very grown-up these days. 🐑

He was born here with his sister Chloe, just when we thought his mom Maggie was still finding her footing after arriving at the sanctuary.

From the start, Humphrey was the strong, steady one. Now he’s filling out, standing next to the feeding trays like he’s been part of the routine forever, with that calm little face watching everything we do.

He’s still young, still learning, and very much part of the daily shuffle of feed, fresh hay, and barn checks.

We’re so glad this sweet boy gets to grow up safe here with his family. And we’re so grateful to everyone who helps make that possible, because this little sanctuary runs entirely on donations. 💙

Meet Jeden and Percy: two sun-lovers with excellent taste in company. ☀️🐐

Jenn has been part of The Happy Herd volunteer family since November, and Percy quickly became her favourite goat. He was the first one she met here, and clearly, he made a very good first impression.

Rain or shine, it’s the little moments like this that make the sanctuary feel so special. Good people, sweet animals, and Percy soaking up every bit of attention as he deserves. 💙

Our birds may be small, but they’ve got important jobs around here. 🐔

This cornish hen was originally bred for meat, never meant to grow old, scratching through the paddocks, hunting bugs, and inserting itself into absolutely every farm chore.

But here she is.

Our birds help with pest control, clean up dropped feed before anyone else gets to it, and somehow always know exactly when fresh produce arrives.

It’s always something to watch an animal that was never meant to be seen as an individual become exactly that. Full of opinions, routines, favourite spots, and very clear expectations about snack timing.

She’s safe here now, busy as ever, and very much part of this odd little farm family. ☀️

We had some extra hands at the farm this month, and what a difference it made.

The Qualico Properties team helped take apart one of the goat houses, pitched in with chores, and kept things moving while the usual farm crew got on with feed buckets, gates, and all the little jobs that never seem to end.

We’re so grateful for the help, the good energy, and the willingness to jump right in.
