Trying to get a video of my boy Hudson (aka "Huddy") is nearly impossible because he is quite literally glued to my side and refuses to venture far from me—such a crazy puppy!

​Aside from being my shadow, I managed to soak in how nicely he’s developing. He has phenomenal bone, a wonderful topline, a gorgeous front and rear that complement each other beautifully in movement, and a great head.

​Somehow, my fur babies are already turning 4 months old. Yikes! Time is going by way too fast. I'm thinking about entering Hudson in the September show just to see how he does before we head into the October show for points.

Sorry the video is so short. It was hot and Huddy didn't want to run around. lol..

​I just love my Lil Huddy so much.

People often think breeding is simply pairing two dogs, having puppies, snapping cute photos, and making money… but if you’ve truly experienced this life, you know how far from reality that is.

Breeding is NOT for the faint of heart.

Behind every stunning litter photo are things most people will never see.

It’s staying awake all night watching over a mom because something feels off. It’s sleeping beside the whelping box. It’s setting alarms every hour or two to check puppies. It’s weighing the babies constantly, checking temperatures, helping them latch, bottle feeding, tube feeding, and doing everything you can to keep a tiny life alive.

It’s rushing to the vet, scared stiff. It’s emergency C-sections. It’s complications with the mother. It’s puppies born not breathing and immediately going into fight mode, trying everything to revive them.

And sometimes... despite doing EVERYTHING right, you still lose one.

That’s the part people don’t talk about enough.

The puppy you worked on for hours that still didn’t make it. The tiny one you stayed up night after night feeding, thinking it was finally turning the corner. The breeding you invested time and money in that never took. The pregnancy that didn’t go as planned. The litter that was supposed to be a joyful experience but instead taught you a heartbreaking lesson.

Those losses stay with you.

You remember the little faces. You replay everything in your head, wondering if there was one more thing you could’ve done. Sometimes you cry, wipe your face, and still have to walk right back into that whelping box because there are other babies and a mama depending on you.

There’s no calling off because you’re tired. There’s no saying “I’ll do it tomorrow.” When a puppy needs you at 2:00 in the morning, you get up. When mama needs you, you’re there.

And when you’re whelping for someone else, you carry an entirely different weight because someone trusted you with their mama and their puppies. That responsibility is HEAVY.

Yes, there are beautiful moments. Watching a puppy take its first breath. Seeing a weak baby finally gain weight. Watching mama settle in with her babies. Seeing an entire litter grow stronger every day. Handing a healthy puppy to its new family and knowing how much effort went into getting that baby there.

Those moments are why we keep doing it.

But please understand — this life is so much more than cute puppies and dollar signs.

It takes knowledge. Money. Patience. Sacrifice. Instinct. Experience. Sleepless nights. Quick decisions. A strong stomach and an even stronger heart.

And even after all of that, Mother Nature can still remind you that some things are completely out of your control.

So when you see a breeder celebrating a healthy mama and a beautiful litter, celebrate with them. You may have no idea what they went through behind closed doors to get to that picture.

There are victories we post…

and there are losses we quietly carry.

Breeding isn’t easy. Whelping isn’t easy. And it certainly isn’t for the faint of heart. People think breeding is just pairing two dogs, having puppies, taking adorable pictures, and making money… but if you’ve truly lived this life, you know how far from the truth that is.

Snots made it to Winnipeg, Manitoba safe and sound and is totally being spoiled rotten! He is so happy and loved, and it makes my heart smile with joy. 🩵🥰

Today was one of those bittersweet days filled with a heavy mix of profound relief and a crushing ache in the chest, as I shipped one of my puppies off to his forever home in Winnipeg. Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when it involves a tiny creature who has stolen a piece of your heart from the moment he arrived in the world.

Handing him over at WestJet Cargo was an emotional ordeal; hearing his soft, confused whimpers echoing from inside his travel crate as I walked away broke my heart completely, leaving me standing there with tears running down my face. It tears you apart to leave them like that, even when you know they are heading toward a wonderful future. Thank goodness he is safely on his flight now, cruising through the skies and well on his journey to the people who are already adoring him from afar.

​Now the house feels far too quiet, and there is a noticeable, hollow emptiness where his playful energy used to be. We all miss you more than words can say, you little sweetheart. Fly safe, settle in quickly, and know you take a piece of all our hearts with you.

Snot (named after the Rottweiler from Christmas Vacation) is so dang cute! 🩵

The best breeder-owner relationships have one thing in common: an open door.

When you purchase a puppy from an ethical breeder, you're not just buying a dog; you're gaining someone who has invested years into producing that puppy and who will care about them for the rest of its life.

Your dog’s breeder should never be someone you cut off, block, or avoid. Blocking, ignoring, or avoiding your breeder after breaking your commitments doesn't solve the problem; it avoids accountability. Integrity means having the difficult conversation and doing what's right for the dog.

They should be the first person you call when you have questions, need training advice, face a medical concern, or if life takes an unexpected turn.

A responsible puppy buyer understands that the commitment doesn't end when they take their puppy home. They honor their word, respect the contract they signed, and recognize that those agreements exist to protect the dog; not to control the owner.

No breeder expects everything to be perfect. Dogs are challenging. Life changes. Mistakes happen.

What matters is communication.

If you're struggling, reach out.

If your circumstances have changed, be honest.

If you can no longer provide the puppy the life you promised it; and its breeder; honor your commitment and give your breeder the opportunity to help.

Ethical breeders would much rather welcome one of their dogs home than see it in a situation where its needs are not being met.

Open communication isn't about control. It's about trust, accountability, and doing what's best for the dog.

A responsible breeder keeps their door open for life. A responsible puppy buyer keeps the lines of communication open, honors their word, respects the commitments they made, and understands that asking for help or returning the puppy is never a sign of failure, it's a sign of someone with integrity and great character.

At the end of the day, the breeder and owner should be on the same team, working toward the same goal; a happy, healthy and fulfilled dog. Because that's what ethical breeding has always been about.
