Spotlight on: Ralphie 🐾

First-timer Ralphie made his park debut this week—and what an entrance!

This 18-month-old chi-mix travelled all the way from Texas before landing right where he belongs, in Halton Hills with mom Amanda.

Ralphie has been home about a month and is settling into the good life quickly. When it comes to playtime with other dogs, he’s all in. His signature move? Dramatically throwing himself to the ground and playing dead mid-action—full commitment, method acting at its finest.

Was he coached by an opossum back in Texas?

Volunteers love a park into, and today we are happy to introduce "Rupert" — an Acton based toy poodle making his very first visit to the park, alongside sister Everly and his mom & dad.

At 15 years young and rocking life as a tripod, Rupert absolutely flew through the gates following Greyhound Hour—proving those little legs still have serious speed (despite spending most of his time on the sofa).

He wasted no time making friends either—zipping around with fellow newcomer Ralphie (chi-mix), and park regulars Daisy and Jazz. 🐾

🐾 Greyhound Hour Intro — Meet Banana, Lee & the Boss 🍌👑

Say hello to this charming trio rolling in from rural Erin — with a little horsepower, a little mischief, and a LOT of personality.

BananaRama (“Banana”) (L)🍌
Born July 2018, this US NGA racer has legs for days… but racing? Meh. He preferred working the crowd. At just 2 years old, he hitched a ride into Canada in 2020 — yes, a true pandemic pup🚛. Highly food motivated (read: professional snack thief), Banana keeps everyone on their toes.

CBJ Fly Lee ("Levi") (R)🐾
Born in 2016, Lee comes from a litter named after Civil War generals and their wives — very distinguished. Adopted in 2021 by Erika & James, Levi is described simply as “perfection” by mom Erika (we’re not arguing).

And then there’s Leonard 👑
Not pictured, but very much in charge. At 20 years young, this strong-willed prey-driven dachshund is the undisputed pack leader. Everyone — and we mean everyone — respects Leonard.

This crew calls rural Erin home, sharing their space with horses, cats, and plenty of adventure. 🐾

🏁 Greyhound Feature: Meet Fiadh and Fergus 🐾

Irish lass and castle raised sister of pack member Spraoi, Fiadh (pronounced Fee-Aw, Irish for "deer") will be 6 in July. Formerly Bambi, she’s fast, graceful, and very committed to getting pets (dramatic protests if ignored). This royal beauty never raced, and is known as the pack’s unofficial Fun Police.

Fergus (dino camo) will be 7 in August and is a retired Tri-State racer. When his pawrents requested a “goofy” greyhound, that’s exactly what they got. Fergus prides himself in retirement as a shoe thief, cardboard shredder, proud “Superdog” roacher, and enthusiastic biteyface player.

These hounds travel to Acton Greyhound Hour from Toronto with mom Alex and dad Will. Their humans regularly foster new retirees, and we can’t wait to meet the next pack member.

Did you know? 🩸
Greyhounds are canine universal blood donors. Their blood type (often negative) can be safely given to almost any dog in an emergency, and is nicknamed ‘liquid gold’ for its lifesaving value.

Fiadh is already an 8-time blood donor! Pretty Pawsome!

🌧️ April showers bring May flowers — and apparently, very fashionable hounds! 🐾

Dressed in their fleece vests and waterproofs, Tim, Sproi, Lexie Costco, Vroom and Jerry (L to R) braved mud puddles and the rain at today's Greyhound Hour.

🗓️ Did you know? April is Adopt a Greyhound Month!

Every April, groups across North America shine a spotlight on one of the most gentle, loving, and misunderstood breeds out there. Greyhounds — many of whom come from racing backgrounds — make incredibly calm, affectionate companions. Despite their athletic reputation, they're total couch potatoes at heart, happy with short walks and a warm spot to stretch out their long legs.

Thinking about adopting — or just curious about the breed?
Come say hello at the park!
Greyhound Hour is every Sunday from 1-2pm.

🐾 Pupdate – Leash-Free Halton Hills (Acton) | March 31🐾
The LFHH volunteer committee met virtually last night and we’re happy to share a few high-level updates with our wonderful park community:

🧐 Fetching Feedback
The Prospect Park Leash Free survey is available online at Lets Talk Halton Hills until April 10. There are already 50 surveys completed, and we would love to hear from you, if you haven't already had your say!

🌷️Park Conditions
The snow is gone (yay!) and with spring comes muddy and waterlogged areas. There is currently some ponding, but this can be avoided, unless your dog loves a good puddle.

💩 P**p & Scoop
Small act, big impact — every scoop keeps Leash-Free Halton Hills cleaner and safer for all our four-legged friends. Complimentary bags are available at the community board. Thank you for doing your part!

🌲Willow Trees
Following a recent professional arborist assessment, it has been determined that the (2) large willows within the leash free area will be removed. The Town will be scheduling this, and volunteers will let you know about the timing of this work. Please stay tuned for updates.

🏁 Greyhound Feature: Spraoi (pronounced “Spree”) 🇮🇪🐾

Whelped in 2020, Spraoi is new to Canada and the Greyhound Hour pack. This wee brindle Irish lass—who once lived in a castle near Galway—is 26 kg (57 lbs) of pure spirit.

Her mom, Claire, has had several greyhounds, but Spraoi is her very first female—and the smallest of the bunch.

Snow? Ah… that’s a firm nuh-uh from Spraoi. She’s much happier now that the park is back to Irish-like spring temps and fields of green grass.

Don’t let the wee size fool you—this lass has the bark and the zoomies to keep up with the big boys. And around here, it’s always grand when another sassy lass joins the pack.

Spraoi means “fun” in Irish… and she’s bringing plenty of it to the park.
