What an incredible day !

So thankful to Julia for bringing her workshop to Silverwood and sharing her knowledge on a digestible and collaborative format.

Some great takeaways for our horse owners and riders to carry with them going forward

A great saddle fitting workshop with the team at Silverwood Stables yesterday!

This workshop was all about empowerment through education, giving riders the tools to actually see and understand what’s happening under the saddle, rather than relying on guesswork or conflicting opinions.

Over the course of the session, students learned how to:
• Identify where a saddle should (and shouldn’t) sit on the horse’s back
• Recognize early behavioural and physical signs of saddle fit issues
• Understand key anatomical landmarks and how they relate to fit
• Evaluate saddles, pads, and girths with more confidence
• See how rider balance directly impacts the horse

The goal was to leave riders with practical, actionable skills they can use immediately, whether they're assessing their own tack or advocating for your horse’s comfort and welfare during an appointment with a saddle fitter.

We do hacking lessons to build independence and confidence in our riders. Getting outside the 4 safe walls of the arena can be scary, horses can be reactive to our nervous energy, and things can pop out of the bushes. Being put into these situations as a rider helps build so many coping skills and strengths in the saddle. Our horses get more confident dealing with loud noises and sudden movement, they get stronger riding up and down the hills and everyone gets a good workout. More of these nights please !

Thank you for coming out and working with 16 of our riders on this cool and stormy day ! Everyone left with smiles on their faces, and should be proud of the homework they’ve done over the winter that was acknowledged today. Well done everyone !

Thank you Janet of for spending time with our Saturday lesson groups to go over stretching, taping and the importance of movement with our horses and riders today. Such valuable info and so many takeaways from this afternoon. 💜

On this chilly day we proudly hosted the OCEA show ! With a delayed start to build some warmth, we managed to get the arena to a shocking +5C! Thank you to all of the competitors, families, horse handlers, warm up riders, horse donors and OCEA executive team, judge, steward and course designer for organizing and executing a successful day. Thank you to our IHSA team riders who came and helped out as well 💜. Our wonderful horses really showed off and proved they really are worth their weight in gold. Congratulations to York for being the Reserve high point team of the day as well 💜💙. Thank you again to Amanda for shooting all day !

❄️🐴 We are resuming in person lessons as of Wednesday Jan 28. We are still being very creative with this cold snap, plan to wear your EXTRA warm clothes. Snowsuits and overalls are encouraged ! 🐴❄️

To all Silverwood humans !
We have decided to close the farm to visitors until further notice, prioritizing safety for all.
The horses are being meticulously cared for and are staying warm and fed and staying in a normal routine.
Our amazing staff is working extremely hard to keep the barn running.
We are trying to conserve heat and energy in the barn by limiting visitors so pipes do not freeze.
We have lots of supplies and are well prepared !

Please stay home and safe, our horses and riders will resume a regular working schedule soon !
