中元节 Hungry Ghost Festival 2025 🐾

The seventh month of the Lunar calendar is when the Hungry Ghost Festival 2025 takes place. It officially starts on 23rd Aug 2025. 6th Sept 2025 is the 15th lunar day. This is Zhong Yuan Jie (中元节) also known as “Ghost Day,” when it's believed that ghosts are most active. It is common for people to burn joss paper and feed the ravenous spirits on this day. 21st Sept 2025: The Hungry Ghost Festival ends on the 29th day of the seventh month.

The Hungry Ghost Festival is a traditional Taoist and Buddhist event observed mostly by Chinese communities. Known as the 7th month ghost festival, it holds deep spiritual significance across Asia.

According to belief, this is when the Gates of Hell open, allowing spirits to return to the world. These spirits roam the earth looking for food, entertainment, or to visit loved ones. To appease them and avoid misfortune, people offer food, burn joss paper, and conduct rituals.

The origins of the Hungry Ghost Festival can be traced back to ancient Chinese folklore and Buddhist texts.

In Taoist belief, this month is when spirits are temporarily released from the underworld.

In Buddhist tradition, it draws from the Ullambana Sutra, where a disciple, Maudgalyayana, offers food to monks to ease his mother’s suffering in the realm of hungry ghosts.

These cultural influences merged over time into the modern festival, where rituals focus on compassion, ancestor worship, and spiritual balance.

The Asian Leopard Cat is a small wild cat and has the widest geographic distribution of all felines. It can be found in forest areas throughout Indonesia, Philippines, Borneo, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, China and Taiwan.

On average, the Asian leopard Cat is as large as a Domestic Cat. The Leopard Cat can climb trees skillfully. It is also able to swim, but will seldom do so. This cat is nocturnal, and during the day it spends its time in dens that may be hollow trees, cavities under roots, or caves. It spends time out during the day in areas where there are no humans. The Leopard Cat is solitary, except during breeding season.
