Veterinary clinic for small animals and exotics

Manama What3Words Location: ///angers.charm.pulsing
Saar What3Words Location: ///anklet.meanest.satellite Our mission is to provide the best quality of care for your pets, using modern equipment and the latest techniques. PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
Vaccinations, microchipping and worming can be performed a

t both surgeries during normal consulting hours. INTERNAL MEDICINE
Simple cases can be diagnosed and treated during consults. We can hospitalize and work up more complex medicine cases and provide treatment if needed. SURGERY
Surgeries are performed at the Manama branch. Simple surgical procedures can be carried out in the Saar Branch too. All routine procedures are available here. We can also do more complex soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries including plating, pinning and joint surgeries. However we do not undertake spinal surgery but have access to a neurologist for second opinions and complex cases and we can refer if necessary. OPHTALMOLOGY
We perform many ocular surgeries at this hospital and also have access to an ophthalmology specialist for second opinion or complex cases. RADIOLOGY AND ULTRASOUND
We have a digital x-ray machine and ultrasound. For most x-rays animal will need sedation to get the right positioning and to prevent them from moving. In compliant animals ultrasound can be done without sedation. We use ultrasound to diagnose intra-abdominal pathology and pregnancy. DENTISTRY
We have a dental scaler and polisher for routine dentals. Animals are anesthetized to have their teeth cleaned. We can also perform more complex dental procedures eg. teeth extractions, root abscesses and surgery on gums and jaws using dedicated pneumatic dental equipment. PATHOLOGY
We have the facilities to do in house biochemistry, haematology, cultures and urine analysis. Animals have to be starved for most blood tests. For biopsies we use a local pathology laboratory. For more complex cases we send samples overseas. AVIAN AND EXOTICS MEDICINE AND SURGERY
We routinely treat birds and reptiles as well as "small furries" such as rabbits, hamsters and ferrets. Our vets also have contact with other exotic experts around the world and are able to treat virtually any other exotic animal except monkeys and other primates. It is actually illegal to own primates in Bahrain and we do not encourage the keeping of them as pets due to the potential health risks to humans. GROOMING
We groom both cats and dogs. For animals that are nervous we provide sedation. Animals are also bathed. We can either clip off hair or groom in a style cut, as the owner wishes. Very matted hair coats may have to be shaved as it is too uncomfortable for the animal to groom out the knots. The hair regrows quickly.

🚨 Important Notice: Rise in Serious Viral Cases 🚨

We are seeing a concerning increase in highly contagious viral diseases in our patients.

In the past week alone, we have diagnosed multiple cases of Parvovirus (Parvo) in dogs, alongside a rise in Feline Panleukopenia (often called “feline parvo”) in cats.

These viruses are extremely serious and can be life-threatening, especially in young, unvaccinated, or immunocompromised pets.

⚠️ Why this matters:

* Both viruses attack the immune system and gastrointestinal tract
* They can cause severe vomiting, diarrhoea, dehydration, and rapid decline
* Even with treatment, they can be fatal

🦠 Highly contagious & persistent:

* These viruses spread easily through contact with infected animals or contaminated environments
* They can survive in the environment (on surfaces, floors, sand, clothing, shoes) for months to years
* This means pets can become infected without direct contact with a sick animal

💉 Vaccination is critical:

* Vaccination is the most effective protection against both diseases
* Puppies and kittens are especially vulnerable if their vaccination course is incomplete
* Adult pets require regular boosters to maintain immunity

🐾 What you should do:

* Ensure your pet’s vaccinations are up to date
* Avoid taking unvaccinated pets to public areas
* Speak to us if you are unsure of your pet’s vaccine status
* Contact us immediately if your pet shows signs of illness

We understand this can be worrying, but prevention is truly our strongest tool. If you have any concerns or need to book a vaccination, please get in touch with our team.

Mycoplasma in cats — do you know how it’s diagnosed? 🐱🧪

We’re seeing more discussions around feline mycoplasma (haemotropic mycoplasma), and we thought it would be helpful to explain how it’s properly diagnosed.

🔬 You may hear that it can be diagnosed from a blood smear —
but in reality, it’s not that simple.

Why?
• Blood smears have very low sensitivity (~0–10%)
→ meaning they can miss most true infections
• Normal structures in the blood can sometimes look similar and be misinterpreted
• The organism isn’t always present in the bloodstream at the time of sampling

📍 Does where the blood is taken from matter?
• Small capillary samples (like an ear prick) may slightly increase the chance of seeing organisms
• However, even with ideal sampling, a smear alone is still unreliable
• Routine samples (e.g. from the leg vein) are commonly used but don’t improve accuracy

🧪 So how is it properly diagnosed?

Diagnosis should be based on a combination of:
• 🩺 Clinical signs (lethargy, pale gums, fever)
• 🧫 Haematology (looking for anaemia and how the body is responding)
• 🧬 Biochemistry (to assess overall health and organ function)
• 🔬 Blood smear (as a supportive tool only)
• 🧬 PCR testing — the most accurate way to confirm infection

💡 A blood smear can help raise suspicion,
but it shouldn’t be used on its own to make a diagnosis.

If your pet has been diagnosed with mycoplasma, it’s always okay to ask how that diagnosis was made and whether confirmatory testing has been performed.

The goal is always accurate diagnosis and the best care for your pet.

Another day, another life failed by people.

This python is not native to Bahrain. It didn’t “choose” to be here. It was bought, kept, and then—when it became too difficult, too inconvenient, too expensive—it was either dumped or allowed to escape.

Now look at it.
Dehydrated. Malnourished. Exposed to extreme heat and conditions it was never built to survive.

And here’s the reality:
It is illegal in Bahrain to own and keep exotic animals like this.

Yet it still happens.

Exotic animals are not pets for impulse decisions. They require specialist care, controlled environments, precise feeding, and a lifetime commitment. When they’re bred and raised in captivity, they lose the ability to fend for themselves. Releasing them is not “setting them free”—it’s a slow, avoidable death sentence.

This is not rare. This is not shocking anymore.
This is routine.

And that’s the problem.

Until people understand that owning an exotic animal is a serious, long-term responsibility—not a novelty—we will keep seeing this same, heartbreaking outcome over and over again.

Do better.
