After a summer of visitors from around the world, but no real local riders thanks to the current economic crisis in Bulgaria, we have decided the best thing to do, is for now, to close the doors at KBS.
After five-years of madness, camps and carriages, ponies and prosecco, and everything from mini-pigs to engagement parties, with the current economic situation, running the small business with the rising cost of animal feed/electric/diesel has made it simply not viable any more.
What began in 2018, as a speedy work/accommodation solution for Max, with the plan being to join our little herd with her trekking ponies, pretty quickly didn't work out... after much discussion we decided to continue, first with Josie stepping in from a one-week workaway to a six month rock-star.
This gave us enough time to find Claire and get moving with endurance training and riding, more riding lessons and so many other things that Claire launched and oversaw.
As with everything in rural Bulgaria, each month has arrived with its own madness. From being forced to dispatch our beloved pet Pot-bellied pigs thanks to African Swine Fever, to 1000 of bales of hay arriving in the middle of the night, the relentless wild fires, the worry of empty wells and the odd escapee feral stallion attack… it has certainly never been dull.
But these things will never outweigh all the amazing things which happened at KBS. No #1 of course has to be the people, everyone who helped out, who joined us and supported us.
Then there’s also the fun… Creating a safe place for children of all ages to connect with animals, nature and the outdoors. Eco-campaigns and hut-building, camping, endurance racing and so much more…
We’ve certainly had some great times, but for now, it seems like it is time to do what everyone else is doing, hunker down and ride it out… however long that might be…
We will remain open throughout August and September, so we’d love to see you, if you fancy popping in.
Horse-wise, they’re all going to be well cared for… we plan to keep our original and aging fatties, however we are looking for homes for Lenche, Dilarer and Luna, as all have waaaay too much potential and youth to live life in feral semi-retirement.
We’d all just like to say a final time, thank you for the support!!
