🐾 I am often asked: will my Thai kitten’s coat darken with age?
In cats of the Siamese cat type (including Thai / traditional Siamese type, also known as “Wichienmaat”), it is completely normal for the coat (point coloration) to change and darken over time.
1. Temperature (the main factor)
The reason is the so-called Temperature-sensitive albinism
➡️ Pigment is produced more at lower temperatures
Cold → darker coloration
Warm → lighter coloration
📌 Therefore:
In summer, the cat appears lighter
In winter, the coat becomes darker and more contrasted
Cats kept in cooler environments also tend to be darker.
2. With age ⏳
➡️ The coat naturally darkens
➡️ The contrast may also decrease over time
