Advertentie 60 jaar Welsh Belgium !
Haras de Silly
Our first ponies were bought in 1991 at the former Weston Stud in Llangollen, North Wales. It was called the Stoak Stud then. The new owners were Georges and Jessamine Johnson. I remember Jessamine using flower names for her fillies.
A few years later we acquired Eyarth Tom Tom and founded the “Silly Stud”, Silly being the village name. And for the record : Tom is still here as a sire, at the age of 27.
In 2005 we proudly announced the Johnsons a Stoak driving team had won the driving trophy at the Waregem International Welsh Show in Belgium. The four Stoaks were Japonica, Pansy, Jonquil and Moonstone.
Our stud name sounded obviously somewhat odd in the UK. Indeed, being silly is being controversial.
The WPCS allowed us to use a postfix while “de Silly” remained a prefix at Welsh Belgium.
Although the arrival of Tom Tom permitted us to start breeding , we never wanted to do so at a large scale, also wishing to use ponies for driving purposes.
At the Royal Welsh later on, we admired profoundly the continuous wins of Eyarth Windflower and reached out for her lines through Heniarth Wood-wind and Adagio de l’Aurore. Theirs are legendary breeders.
Diolch yn fawr.
