The European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) has released its 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐕𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: a strong call to safeguard scientific freedom, educational excellence, and inclusivity in the veterinary profession.

Key principles from the Position Paper:
✅ Independence is the foundation of scientific and professional integrity.
✅ Academic freedom ensures decisions are based on science, ethics, and societal need; not political or commercial influence.
✅ Veterinary education thrives in environments of fairness, transparency, diversity, and respect.
✅ A strong, inclusive profession welcomes all, across clinical practice, research, public health, education, economy, and policy.
✅ Autonomy enables the veterinary field to tackle global challenges: zoonotic disease, antimicrobial resistance, climate risks, animal welfare and One Health.

By defending academic autonomy, EAEVE strengthens public trust, protects professional standards, and ensures that veterinary medicine continues to benefit both animals and society worldwide.

Animal disease prevention is a shared responsibility. By following simple steps, we can all play our part in safeguarding animal health welfare, public health, and the livelihoods of farmers across borders.

🌍Bringing meat or dairy into the EU from outside? That snack could carry serious animal diseases.
🧳Undeclared meat or dairy from outside the EU will be seized and destroyed. Avoid the risk, declare it or leave it.
🚫Before leaving, carefully dispose of leftover food to protect foraging animals and wildlife.

🐾 Standing Up for the Veterinary Profession Across Europe

At FVE, we make sure veterinarians’ voices are heard — early, clearly, and where it matters most. 💬🇪🇺

From animal welfare to public health, we gather real-world insights, research and scientific evidence to support fair, evidence-led policymaking. That’s why we work closely with EU institutions — the Commission, Parliament, and Council — to ensure veterinary expertise, as a vital profession in society, is embedded in the decision-making process.

🔎 We back our advocacy with solid science and real-world insights, thanks to our valued members and expert working groups.

💊 From essential medicine access to animal transport, from animal health to veterinary public health issues, we’re on the frontlines to promote science-based policies.

📢 We don’t just respond to consultations — we lead. Position papers, press releases, stakeholder dialogues: we’re building the future of the profession and Europe, together.

👩⚕️ Because when vets are heard, everyone benefits — animals, people, and the planet.

Animal disease prevention is a shared responsibility. By following simple steps, we can all play our part in safeguarding animal health welfare, public health, and the livelihoods of farmers across borders.

🚫 Avoid touching livestock and wildlife and prevent contact with your pets, to protect them and yourself!
🧼 Respect biosecurity measures and clean items that may have been in contact with farmed or wild animals.

🛡️ Don't let animal or food-borne diseases ruin your trip and follow you home!
