Ants? Yes, at Ilyas Insects, we keep ants.

We specialize in ant species from the Amazon region, including iconic species such as bullet ants (Paraponera clavata) and leafcutter ants (Atta and Acromyrmex).

Rather than fragile starters, we focus on established queens and developed colonies, giving keepers a far stronger and more reliable starting point. Each colony is maintained with careful attention to species-specific needs and long-term succes.

Availability varies. Follow the page for updates.

Check out ilyasinsects.com for our availability on ants.

Hey everyone!
I know I haven’t posted in a while, the last few weeks have been incredibly hectic. Between running the business, preparing new projects, and my recent trip to Peru (which was amazing but also a bit chaotic 😅), time flew by faster than expected.
I’m finally catching up again, and I’ve got a lot of exciting updates, new species, and fresh content coming soon. Thanks for sticking around and for all the support! 🐜✨

Prosopocoilus giraffa keisukei

First eggs are already being laid.

While Prosopocoilus giraffa giraffa from the Indian mainland is known for its extremely elongated mandibles and slender body, P. g. keisukei from Borneo shows a very different kind of power. The males are shorter but noticeably thicker, with heavy, muscular jaws that curve less dramatically and give them a much more robust appearance.

Their build reflects the island’s harsher competition. They are more aggressive, stockier, and darker in tone than their mainland relatives. Despite being slightly smaller in length, keisukei males often appear more massive due to their broader thorax and dense proportions.

It’s always fascinating to see how geography shapes evolution, even within the same species. Breeding continues, and we’re looking forward to seeing the next generation of larvae crawl around soon!
