My journey with horses started when I was just 8 years old. At 9, I bought my very first pony with my own money named Bliksem, and from that moment on, horses became a huge part of my life. It was never just a hobby; it was a passion that grew with me over the years.
In 2015, I took a step towards something I had always dreamed of: Quarter Horses I bought my first foal 𝓓𝓾𝓪𝓵 𝓡𝓸𝓸𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓑𝓸𝓸𝓷 . Having spent my earlier years in the jumping world, I had never really ventured into Western riding, even though it was something I had always wanted to explore. Making that change was the beginning of a whole new chapter.
In 2017, we welcomed our very first Quarter Horse foal into the world 𝓝𝓥𝓖 𝓣𝓻𝓲𝓹𝓵𝓮 𝓢𝓾𝓻𝓹𝓻𝓲𝓼𝓮 . A moment I will always cherish. Sadly, we lost him two and a half years later due to a leg injury . Losing him was heartbreaking, especially because he was the beginning of something that would eventually become such a big part of my life.
But 2017 was also the year everything changed in another way. Just three weeks after our first foal was born, I had a riding accident that left me with a fracture in my back. Since then, riding has unfortunately become almost impossible for me. Something I had always loved and imagined doing for the rest of my life suddenly became something I could no longer enjoy in the same way.
Of course, I miss riding more than words can explain. But somehow, my passion for horses found another way to grow. Breeding became so much more than something I wanted to try. It became a way to stay connected to the horses I love, to be part of their journey from the very beginning, and to continue doing something that means the world to me.
Along the way, we have also experienced some heartbreaking losses. In 2020, we had to say goodbye to Dual Roosters Boom, my very first Quarter Horse that I had bought, at not even six years old. Losing horses who have been such an important part of your life leaves a mark that never truly disappears. They are never just horses; they are part of your story, your memories and your heart. ❤️
What started as a personal passion slowly grew into something bigger. In 2022, that journey developed into the business we have today: Nevagan Stables.
And this year, receiving our certificate celebrating 10 years of Quarter Horse breeding made me realise just how far we have come. From that very first foal to the small breeding program we have built today, with several foals born each year and four more expected next year, it is a journey I am incredibly proud of.
It hasn't always been easy. There have been beautiful moments, unforgettable memories, difficult decisions and losses that have broken our hearts. But every experience has been part of the journey that brought us here.
Sometimes life takes away the path you thought you would follow, and you have to find another way to keep doing what you love. For me, breeding has become that way. It doesn't replace riding, and it never will, but it gives me the opportunity to keep learning, growing and being involved with these incredible animals.
Looking back, I am truly grateful for everything this journey has brought me, for every horse that has crossed my path, for every foal born here, and for all the people who have been part of it along the way.
