My horse has gastric ulcers: should I choose Gastro Aid or omeprazole? 🤔
The short answer: you don't have to choose. They each do something different.

💊 Omeprazole is a veterinary medicine. It strongly reduces stomach acid production, so gastric ulcers can heal. It is meant for a short treatment, prescribed by your vet.

🌿 Gastro Aid is targeted nutritional support. It neutralises excess acid and supports the stomach's natural protection. You can safely give it over the long term, as part of your horse's daily routine.

⚠️ Good to know: omeprazole doesn't solve the underlying cause. If factors like long periods without forage, a lot of starch, stress or transport remain, ulcers often come back. And right after treatment, when acid production starts up again, the stomach is extra sensitive.

💡 Gastric ulcers: what should you look out for and what can you do yourself? Our expert Caroline explains 👇
Possible signs: poorer performance, loss of appetite, weight loss or colic symptoms. These symptoms alone don't tell you for sure that gastric ulcers are the cause, so always talk to your vet.

What you can do yourself:
1️⃣ Plenty of roughage, so your horse's stomach is never empty
2️⃣ Mind the timing: give fibre rich feed in the morning before concentrates, before training and before travelling. These are also the ideal moments for buffering ingredients

Roughage first, then concentrates 🌾
