🇨🇿 National Agribusiness Competition in Benesov 🇨🇿

🗓️ This spring, Agricultural College and Secondary School in Benesov, organized a prestigious competition for final-year students of agricultural secondary schools from across the Czech Republic.

🧑‍🎓👩‍🌾 Each year, the competition tests not only theoretical knowledge but also the practical skills of future agricultural professionals. This year, 2️⃣6️⃣ schools registered for the competition.

🚜🌽🌾🐮 Typical disciplines include precision tractor driving, attaching and adjusting agricultural implements, identifying crops and livestock breeds, and formulating feed rations for cattle. There is also a theoretical test covering economics and agronomy, designed to evaluate students’ ability to think within the broader context of rural entrepreneurship.

👉 Each year, the competition is hosted by a different school – it is always organized by the school whose student won the previous year. The organizing school is not allowed to enter its own contestant that year.
The winner of last year’s competition was student Martin Schenk, a student at our school, which is why this year’s event was organized in Benešov.

🔜 Next year’s competition will take place in Chrudim, as this year’s winner was Lukas Uchytil from the Agricultural College and Secondary School in Chrudim. Our school can now begin choosing and preparing its representative for next year’s competition.

From 🇳🇱 to 🇭🇺 Study Trip for Livestock Farming Students

🗓️ During the study trip from 12 to 19 April 2026, a number of livestock farming students from Hardenberg collaborated with students from Yuverta Horst and DC Terra Groningen. In a group of 1️⃣3️⃣ students, they worked together with Hungarian students and stayed at the school building of Északi ASzC Lippai János Mezőgazdasági Technikum és Szakképző Iskola.

👉 The students worked on project-based assignments and visited a large number of companies. At the beginning of the week, Arany Parmen Kft was visited, a company specialising in the harvesting and storage of apples 🍏.

🐐 🧀 The following day included a visit to the Tiszaadony Start cooperative, a goat farm where goat cheese is produced. After that, Tulipa Kft was on the programme, a large greenhouse complex with an adjoining garden centre. 🌷🌿

🌽🌾 Later in the week, an arable farming business was visited, which proved particularly popular among the students. Some of them even had the opportunity to help with sowing activities.

🐄 🐷 🐑 In addition to visiting the school farm with cows, pigs and sheep, there was also plenty of attention given to recreational activities. Activities included visits to a zoo, a swimming pool and an animal shelter, as well as a walk through the mountain area. 👣🏞️

😁 Overall, the group received a very warm welcome, explored a large part of the region, and both the students and accompanying teachers got to know each other very well. It was a fantastic week!

🇪🇺 This project was co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, which supports international cooperation and exchange in education. Thanks to this support, the students were able to participate in this valuable study trip and collaborate with international partners.

☀️ What a fantastic (and warm!) Day 2! ☀️🐾

🗓️ The second competition day of the EUROPEA Animal Care Competition took place at Wildlands Zoo in Emmen—and it was full of action!

👍 Students tackled a variety of exciting challenges: working in the elephant enclosure (including the unforgettable task of shoveling 85 kilos of dung in just 5 minutes! 💪🐘), completing tasks in the diet kitchen, and taking on a fun challenge where they had to waddle like penguins while moving a large egg with their feet—the fastest team won! 🐧🥚

👉 They also began working on their major theoretical assignment: designing an enclosure for an assigned animal species. These designs must meet strict requirements, including animal welfare, visibility for visitors, and practical maintenance. Tomorrow, students will finalise their designs and pitch their concepts to the judges. After the hard work we had guided tours in groups and we were also led behind the scenes. Very exciting and interesting!

🧐 Meanwhile, coaches and supervisors made the most of the day by exploring the park, also behind the scenes, and networking. Many exciting plans were made for school visits, exchanges, and future partnerships. Amazing to see such collaboration! 🤝

🎉 Looking forward to tomorrow’s final day! 🎉

🌟 And we’re off! 🎉

The first competition day of the EUROPEA Animal Care Competition is a fact! What a great atmosphere from the very start.

After a morning filled with welcome speeches, an icebreaker Bingo, a tour of the school and practical training facilities, and a delicious Dutch lunch, the official competition kicked off. Participants got to work on both practical assignments and theory challenges.

Excited for what’s ahead — tomorrow the competition continues at Wildlands Zoo! 🦒🐘

🇳🇱 Flexible Learning for Working Professionals: Aeres University of Applied Sciences Wageningen Innovates Part-Time Education

🗓️ Starting in the 2026–2027 academic year, Aeres University of Applied Sciences in Wageningen (Dutch teacher-training centre for agri-environmental education) will introduce a major transformation across nearly all of its part-time Associate Degree and Bachelor programmes. This development aims to better align education with the needs of learners who combine their studies with work, family life, or a career transition.

👉 Tailored Education for Professionals and Career Switchers The renewed approach offers students greater opportunities to follow a programme that matches their individual background and circumstances. Flexibility in pace, content, and module sequencing allows students to accelerate when they bring relevant experience, or to take more time when needed.

“We see a growing number of professionals who want to combine higher education with work and personal life. By making our part-time programmes more flexible, we create room for customization without compromising on quality. Students can align their personal study plan with their own lives—and that truly makes a difference,” says Marion van Beek, Faculty Director at Aeres University of Applied Sciences Wageningen.

🧑‍🎓 Personal Choices Within a Clear Structure While maintaining a strong academic foundation, the redesigned part-time programmes introduce greater flexibility through personalized study plans. Students select modules that fit their professional field or interests and decide the order in which they complete them. Guidance—both individual and group-based—remains a key component. In addition, previously acquired knowledge and work experience can be validated, enabling students to progress more quickly where possible.

👥 Blended Learning Approach Part-time students have a fixed weekly study day, featuring a mix of on-campus sessions in Wageningen, excursions, coaching, workshops, and time for self-study. An online learning hub provides access to information and tools, supporting students in their studies from home.

🔄 Programmes Included in the Flexible Model The flexible approach will be implemented in the following part-time programmes:
Teacher and Knowledge Manager in Green Education
Teacher in Hospitality, Bakery, and Recreation
Teacher in Services and Products
Educational Professional in Vocational Education
The Master’s programme Learning and Innovation will also offer flexibility, with a distinct educational model centred on personal innovation ambitions and a modular curriculum.

👉 With this step, Aeres strengthens its commitment to accessible, future-oriented education—empowering learners across Europe to grow professionally while contributing to the green transition.
