🐴DRESSAGE SOLUTIONS!🐴 Correct Your Seat and Posture

To correct your seat and posture ...

Imagine your pelvis as an old-fashioned goldfish bowl. To maintain your posture while you ride, keep the water in the bowl level. If your pelvis is tipped forward, the water will pour out onto the horse’s withers. If your pelvis is tipped backward, you will pour the water out onto the haunches.

🐴"Leading for Trouble"🐴 Earlier this week, we asked how many things you could find wrong with this photo, and you guys didn't miss a beat!

1. Typo on “Picture”
2. Lead rope wrapped around wrist: Never wrap any part of your body with something attached to your horse. Getting dragged can be deadly.
3. Occupied ears: While we all occasionally enjoy listening to music via our ear buds at the barn, having both ears occupied prevents this handler from hearing what else is going on around her. But her horse can, and he could spook before she even knew what happened. A safer option would be to only have one ear bud in.
4. Crocs as footwear: While easy to slip on after a ride, Crocs offer zero protection from getting stomped on.
5. Wrong-side issues: While this handler is leading her horse from the right side, many of you pointed out the importance of teaching horses to lead from both sides.

Thank you to everyone who participated! (And full disclosure, if you missed our previous note: We absolutely weren't picking on this young rider! We staged this at a recent photo shoot as fun exercise on proper leading.)

🐴DRESSAGE SOLUTIONS!🐴 To encourage your horse to travel around turns and circles in an upright balance …

Imagine his head, shoulders and hips as three connected train cars. All the parts have to follow each other along the same track. And the cars need to stay upright. To do this, put more weight in your outside stirrup while maintaining a level pelvis, and stay lifted in your core to allow your shoulders to follow the direction of travel, pointing your belt buckle up the track as your horse enters the turn.
