*Betta Fry Jaring Procedure*

Jarring Betta fry involves moving them into smaller containers or jars once they are old enough to prevent overcrowding, which helps reduce aggression and stress. Here are the steps to jar Betta fry:

1. Prepare the Jars:

Use small containers or jars, usually 500 mL to 1 liter in size (1-1.5 litre is more preferable). Ensure they are clean and free from contaminants.

Make sure each jar top has 3-4 inch emty space, because fry can jump out from pot.

2. Set Up the Fry Tank:

Before jarring, ensure the fry are at least 6-8 weeks old (depending on their size and development). They should have grown enough to be moved without causing stress.

Maintain the water temperature between 78-80°F (25-27°C) to ensure proper growth and prevent any shock during the transfer.

3. Gradual Transition:

You can start by isolating the fry within the grow-out tank in small breeding boxes or cups to get them used to being alone before moving them into jars.

Gradually introduce them to a separate jar. A sudden move might cause stress, so take your time.

4. Water Conditions:

Ensure the water in the jars is similar to that in the grow-out tank. It should be well-conditioned, with proper pH (6.5-7.5) and soft water.

Change the water in the jars regularly, at least once every 2-3 days. Since jars are small, waste can build up quickly.

5. Positioning the Jars:

Place the jars in a quiet, stable environment. A temperature-controlled area like a fish room or tank rack is ideal.

Avoid direct sunlight or drafts that could cause temperature fluctuations.

6. Feeding:

Feed the fry 2-3 times a day with high-quality Betta fry food or newly hatched brine shrimp. Monitor the feeding closely to avoid overfeeding, which can pollute the water quickly.

Remove uneaten food to maintain water quality.

7. Monitor Growth and Behavior:

Jarring helps reduce aggression and provides a better environment for the fry to grow, but you must monitor their progress. If any fry are showing signs of stress or poor health, remove them to a separate container for closer observation.

8. Jarring Individual Betta Fry:

Once a Betta fry is ready to be jarred, carefully transfer it from the grow-out tank into the jar using a small net or cup.

Only jar one fish per container, as male Bettas are highly territorial and aggressive towards each other.

9. Final Notes:

As the fry grow and develop their fins and coloring, you may notice early signs of aggression in males. They should be jarred separately to prevent fighting.

Keep a close eye on their growth, and once they’re large enough (around 3-4 months), they can be moved to larger tanks or prepared for selling or showing.
