🌊 Axolotl Care 101 🐾 – Keep Your Water Dragons Happy! 🌿

Thinking of keeping an axolotl? These adorable amphibians are low-key but need some special care to thrive. Here’s what you need to know 👇

🧊 Cool Temps Please!
Axolotls prefer water between 16–18°C (60–65°F). No heaters—use a fan or cooling system if needed.

💧 Crystal-Clear Water is Life
Use a gentle filter, cycle the tank, and do regular water changes. Ammonia and nitrites = big no-no! Test your water weekly.

🏡 Tank Setup
Min. 20 gallons for one axolotl. Bare bottom or soft sand is safest—avoid gravel to prevent impaction.

🦐 Diet Time
Feed high-protein foods like earthworms, bloodworms, axolotl pellets, or frozen shrimp. Young ones eat daily, adults every 2–3 days.

👁️ Handle with Care (or Not at All)
Axolotls have delicate skin and gills. Avoid handling unless absolutely necessary.

🫧 Tank Mates? Not Really.
They’re best kept solo or with other axolotls of similar size. Fish = risk of bites AquariumLife

🧼 Spot Clean Often
They’re messy eaters. Use a turkey baster or siphon to keep things tidy.

Chili Rasboras are considered shrimp-safe tank mates. Their small size and peaceful nature make them excellent companions for dwarf shrimp species like Cherry Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) or Crystal Red Shrimp (Caridina cantonensis). In fact, keeping them together can create a harmonious and visually stunning aquatic environment, as the vibrant colors of the shrimp complement the bright hues of the Rasboras. Additionally, since Chili Rasboras have tiny mouths and are not aggressive, they generally pose no threat to adult shrimp and their offspring, allowing for a thriving community of both fish and invertebrates in the same tank.
