WHY PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES PREFER LOCAL FOIL
International price for aluminum blister foil is Tk 700.00per kg it’s Local Price is Tk. 730.00per kg. The pharmaceutical companies prefer local producers due to following advantages:
Lead Time:
In case of importing printed aluminum foil from overseas market it takes 60 to 90 days time for cylinder making, sample approval and finished product arrival. In this competitive market no pharmaceutical company can wait for too long.
Quantity:
While taking supply from local producers, pharmaceutical industries can place order for a minimum quantity like 50 to 200 kg but for imported foils Pharmaceutical Industries don’t have such facilities. They have to open L/C for large quantity as foreign companies don't accept small quantity of orders. In that case a lot of working capital remains blocked in importing printed foils.
Long time investment:
A pharmaceuticals industry doesn’t need even cannot use beyond a certain quantity of printed foils at a time. As a result some foils lies unused for an uncertain time. In that case goods sometimes get degraded due to oxidization
In case of faulty material:
Proper printing & sealing quality is required for good medicine packaging. Once Pharmaceutical Company receives bad quality foil, they cannot get it replaced by the foreign companies.
Competition among Pharmaceuticals:
While launching a new product, Pharmaceutical Industries usually go for a minimum production for trial marketing and need minimum quantity of printed foils. Only local suppliers can provide such facilities to the Pharmaceutical Industries.
