মীর মাহফুজুর রহমান মুগ্ধ জুলাই বিপ্লবের একজন বীর শহিদ। ১৮ জুলাই, উত্তরার আজমপুরে বিক্ষোভকারীরা পিপাসার্ত হয়ে পড়লে তিনি তাদের জন্য পানি ও খাবার নিয়ে ছুটে যান। মৃত্যুর ১৫ মিনিট আগে ধারণ করা একটি ভিডিওতে দেখা যায় তিনি বিক্ষোভকারীদের পানির বোতল ও বিস্কিট বিতরণ করছেন। বিকেল ৫টার দিকে উত্তরার আজমপুর মোড়ে রাস্তার পাশে থাকা অবস্থায় তাকে গুলি করা হয়। গুলিটি তার কপাল ভেদ করে মাথার ডান পাশ দিয়ে বেরিয়ে যায়। তার মরদেহ উত্তরা ক্রিসেন্ট হাসপাতালে নেওয়া হলে কর্তব্যরত চিকিৎসক তাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করেন।
মুগ্ধর শাহাদাত বরণ ও তার আগের দৃশ্য বাংলাদেশের প্রায় প্রতিটি গণমাধ্যমে প্রকাশিত হয়েছে। গত ২৯ জুলাই দৈনিক প্রথম আলোয় প্রকাশিত এক প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়, "মুগ্ধ ২০২৩ সালে খুলনা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে গণিতে স্নাতক শেষ করেন। ঢাকায় ফিরে মার্চ মাসে ভর্তি হয়েছিলেন বাংলাদেশ ইউনিভার্সিটি অব প্রফেশনালসে (বিইউপি)। প্রফেশনাল এমবিএ করছিলেন। পাশাপাশি ফ্রিল্যান্সিং করতেন তিনি।" প্রতিবেদনটিতে আরো বলা হয়, "১৮ জুলাই উত্তরার আজমপুরে সংঘর্ষের মধ্যে গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে ঘটনাস্থলেই মারা যান মুগ্ধ। সেদিন তিনি লেমিনেটিং করা বিইউপির আইডি কার্ড (পরিচয়পত্র) গলায় ঝুলিয়ে রেখেছিলেন। গুলি লাগার পর আইডি কার্ডের ভেতরে রক্ত ঢুকেছিল। রক্ত শুকিয়ে গেছে। মুগ্ধর পরিবারের সদস্যরা রক্তমাখা কার্ডটি সেভাবেই রেখে দিয়েছেন।"
গত ২৭ জুলাই দ্য বিজনেস স্ট্যান্ডার্ড পত্রিকার এক সংবাদে বলা হয়, "মুগ্ধ খুলনা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ১৯তম ব্যাচের শিক্ষার্থী ছিলেন।" প্রতিবেদনটিতে আরো বলা হয়, মুগ্ধের জন্ম উত্তরায়, ১৯৯৮ সালে। তার গ্রামের বাড়ি ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়ায়। তিন ভাইয়ের মধ্যে মীর মাহবুবুর রহমান স্নিগ্ধ ও মুগ্ধ ছিল যমজ। এই প্রতিবেদনে আরো নিশ্চিত করা হয়, তার দাফনকার্য সম্পন্ন হয় উত্তরাতেই। তার হত্যাকাণ্ড নিয়ে বিভ্রান্তি সৃষ্টির যে কোনো প্রচেষ্টা বিচার থেকে বাঁচতে এবং জুলাই-আগস্ট বিপ্লবকে হেয় প্রতিপন্ন করার জন্য হত্যাকারীদের পক্ষ থেকে অত্যন্ত একটি জঘন্য পদক্ষেপ।

Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho is a martyr of the July Revolution. On July 18, when protesters were thirsty in Uttara's Azampur, he rushed to bring them water and food. A video taken 15 minutes before his death shows him distributing water bottles and biscuits to protesters.
He was shot while he was on the roadside at the Azampur intersection in Uttara around 5 pm. The bullet pierced his forehead and exited through the right side of his head. His body was taken to Uttara Crescent Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Mugdha's martyrdom and the scene before his killing were published in almost every media outlet in Bangladesh. According to a report published in the daily Prothom Alo on July 29, Mugdho completed his graduation in mathematics at Khulna University in 2023. After returning to Dhaka, he was admitted to Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) in March. He was doing a professional MBA. Besides, he used to do freelancing.
"Mugdho died on the spot after being shot during a clash at Azampur in Uttara on July 18. On that day, he hung the laminated BUP ID card (identity card) around his neck. Blood had entered the ID card after the shooting. The blood dried up. Mugdho's family members kept the blood-stained card as it is,” said the report.
On July 27, The Business Standard newspaper reported that Mugdho was a student of the 19th batch of Khulna University. The report also said that Mugdho was born in Uttara in 1998. His village home is in Brahmanbaria. Among the three brothers, Mir Mahbubur Rahman was the twin.
The report also confirmed that his burial was completed in Uttara. Any attempt to create confusion about his assassination is a heinous move on the part of the killers to escape justice and undermine the July-August revolution.
