Out catching another colony for neutering this week, helping a local community that love these cats and feed them daily but can’t afford to fix or worm and flea them, they also all have ringworm so we will be fixing them all, worming and fleaing them and doing the initial treatment for ringworm which the locals will continue once we return them. For this we need funds, there’s never enough money to do everything we need to do and we can’t do this without your support and donations and for that we are very grateful. Thank you to you all!

UPDATE- foster homes have been found, we still have other kittens needed foster placements. Pm us if you can help us help them…

Foster homes needed for kittens -we are desperate for foster homes for baby kittens. We are completely out of space at the sanctuary and kittens this age cannot survive on the streets on their own.
They would need to be kept inside for their own safety and we will cover any vet bills and provide food and litter as needed.
Below are photos of two urgent kittens that needs foster homes.
Can you open your heart to a kitten in crisis?

Update on skinny Rory who we picked up earlier this week. He’s not doing well and is receiving urgent vet treatment. He’s deteriorated quickly in the last 24hours and despite having fluids, vitamins and antibiotics he’s critical.

We need your help as this will be a huge expense to us but we can’t not help him. We now have 4 cats at the vets in critical condition.

Please donate anything you can afford using reference Rory to help us with his and our others critical kitties medical care. We always try everything to save every cat, we don’t euthanise just because they are ill or need more treatment that we can afford.

Donation options are on the website page link below.

We need your support now more than ever to give Rory a chance.

Update on Storm - this kitten from the drain. Shes made some friends at the sanctuary so she’s settled in lovely. She was lonely alone. The only thing left now is a home to call her own. If you are interested in adopting Storm or any of our other kittens or older cats please message us.

Today we dealt with another colony all fixed and released. We also vaccinate, worm and de flea and provide any healthcare needed. 19 cats in total, 12 females and 7 males. Total cost to the charity for this mission was $2570BD not including the time to trap and release and travel etc. This is why fundraising for us is so important

The more cats we neuter/spay on the island the more the problem is reduced over time.

Today’s mission was quite urgent as we were alerted to a momma and 4 kittens living in a skip at the colony club Hotel who we help manage their cat population. If we didn’t get this done today the skip could have been emptied and the kittens crushed underneath.

Here is a video of our drop trap in use perfect for a mom and babies or for cats who won’t go into the smaller traps. It needs patience and a plan but this shows you how it works in practice under the experienced hand of Kaelin. We got mom and 2 kittens at once.

All cats panic when the trap initially goes off that’s normal but they calm quickly once covered with towels and moved into smaller cages for transport.

We work with hotels across the island who embrace their cat population and the goodness it brings to both their visiting guests and also their rodent population. If you are a hotel or apartment block in need of help contact us. Please note we don’t remove cats, you need to embrace them, love them and we can help with neutering and healthcare to keep the population under control and healthy.

Many of you will have seen our front line rescues yesterday especially the kitten in the drain at Black Rock. This is exactly why Safe cats exist. To step in and help where and when others can’t.

But we are desperately short of funds, food, volunteers, bedding etc. every month there is a short fall that is made up by the trustees as the expenses always exceed the income. It’s not sustainable without increased regular donations.

My name is Gill and I have recently become a volunteer with Safe Cats helping with social media and plugging the gaps that Wendy and Barbara don’t have the time to do. What they do is amazing and so I beg you all to donate as much or as little as you can to allow them to continue to do what they do to help the cats of Barbados.

Bank details are below for GBP/CAN/USD/Local, I’m asking as Wendy cant. Please help with whatever you can to allow Safe Cats to continue to operate. The situation could not be more desperate…….
