As of January 2023, we have had 299 adoptions! HOPE VMS run a main shelter where rescued animals can heal. Once

they are fully healed, vaccinated and sterilized they are available for adoption to safe happy homes (we conduct strict checks prior to adoption). With no official funding we rely solely on donations from individuals in the global community to continue or life saving work. We aim to relive the suffering and abuse of Bosnian Dogs through rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing. HOPE VMS is a no-kill shelter providing vaccination, sterilization and other necessary medical assistance to all rescued dogs. HOPE VMS can use donated medicines up to 12 months past their expiry date. We also always can use, bowls, towels, blankets, medical equipment and transportation boxes/cages. Sometimes, through no fault of their own, a dog's life can be turned upside down all over again. 🥺

Last month, we welcomed 10 dogs from a shelter that was closing. They had already been rescued once and given the chance of a better life, but now they have had to leave the place they knew behind once again.💔

Soon, another 10 dogs from the same shelter will join them, bringing the total to 20 dogs who are starting yet another chapter of their lives.

We want this chapter to be different. We want it to lead them somewhere safe, loving and permanent.

So we'd love to ask our Hope VMS family:

What do you think every dog deserves?🤔

A safe place? A warm bed? A full belly? Someone who will never give up on them? A family of their own?

Tell us in the comments. What is the one thing you believe every dog should have?

Look at these two little faces now.🥰

When Santo and Priska arrived, they were frightened of everything. At just five months old, they had already learned to be scared of people.

And we have another little detail to share that makes their story even more special. ✨️

Santo and Priska are related to Dobby and Darby.
How amazing that more of the same family have been saved from being killed. ❤️

And now, just like Dobby and Darby before them, these two little souls are getting their chance to discover what life can really be like.

They're watching. They're sniffing. They're getting curious. And slowly, very slowly, they're starting to come closer.

That tiny moment when Santo decides it's safe enough to approach. Priska watching carefully from beside him. Those little steps towards a hand that once would have sent them hiding.

There's still a long way to go, but for now, we're incredibly happy to see these tiny pieces of their personalities beginning to emerge.

And knowing that Dobby, Darby, Santo and Priska are all part of the same family makes us even more determined to see these two little ones get their happy ending too.

Keep watching this space, because we have a feeling Santo and Priska have only just started showing us who they really are. 🙏

Because sometimes all a dog needs is a little more time, and Heroes who make that time possible.

❤️ There's never anything spare. Never.

We can’t take the easy option and pay a little more to make our lives just a little bit easier. We constantly have to find the cheapest option that still gets the job done.

Which is why Maya drove the last group of dogs to the Croatian border herself, so they could continue their journeys with cheaper onward transport.

But at what cost to Maya?

She finally got home at 4am, exhausted and stressed. Just a few hours later, she was back at the shelter helping to feed and care for all the dogs still waiting for their chance.

This is what's behind the happy endings we show you. Maya and Sanela keep going, even when they are drained and tested almost beyond their limits.

August was hard. Holidays, hot sunny days, hobbies and activities all meant that much fewer Heroes supported us, and we haven't collected the Days of Hope we normally would by this point in the month.

But we can't cut anything else unless we reduce food rations, delay vet visits or say no to the next rescue case.

So please, step up for the dogs and give a little something today. If you can, make it a monthly gift, so that when Maya gets home at 4am again, she knows there are Heroes behind her helping to keep the dogs safe.

This is Hope 🥰

15 dogs. 15 lives changed forever, all in August.

Every one of them came to us carrying the trauma of what they had been through. Now, look at them. A family. A home. A future. 🙏

And there are more waiting for theirs.

Help us be here to welcome the next 15.

Tribute to Alf ❤️

“I lost my best friend last year.

I had a great rescue dog from Hope called Alf, who was my best friend. Alf was a Border Collie cross with Corgi-like short legs. He had been traumatised by the dog catchers, so he wouldn’t go for walks on a lead. If you put a lead on him, he would just freeze.

Over the 4-5 years that we had Alf, he began to trust us and loved spending his days in the garden, where he felt safe. That was his little world, free from the dog catchers.

It seems like every day I can still recall little details about Alf, like how he absolutely loved going to the groomer to lose his thick, heavy coat in summer.

Sadly, Alf died last September due to kidney problems, but he’ll always remain in my heart. I still talk to him daily.

So when I saw that Hope were launching a new sponsorship option, Personalised Tribute Kennels, this seemed like a lovely way to remember Alf, but also do some good for the dogs who haven’t had their chance for a loving home yet."

Thank you Dave. By sponsoring a Personalised Tribute Kennel, Alf’s memory can now be part of giving another rescue dog the safety, comfort and care they need while they wait for their own happy ending.

A sponsor becomes the exclusive supporter of a kennel at Hope’s shelter in Bosnia, with their personal tribute displayed on the kennel and regular updates and photographs of the dog, or dogs, staying there.

It's a beautiful way to keep the love for a much-loved dog alive, while helping another dog who needs that same chance at a safe and happy life. ❤️

Dobby went first.

His adoption was one of those moments we celebrated with very full hearts, but there was always one little thought in the back of our minds...

“Now we just need Darby to find hers.”

And now she has! Darby has found her forever home! ❤️

So, Dobby and Darby, two siblings who once shared the same beginning, now have something wonderful in common again.

They both have a family to call their own. 🥰

Two stories. Two homes. Two very happy endings.

And honestly, we couldn't have wished for anything better for them. 🏡

Happy Bus traffic report: BUSY!

Orion, Mini, Nera, Bela & Willow have all climbed aboard, along with Darby and Lexi, and they are officially on their way to their forever homes.

Seven dogs. Seven new beginnings. One VERY tired driver!

Maya drove all the way to the Croatian border to make sure every one of them got safely on their journey, finally arriving home at 4am.

We would have loved to show you a photo of Maya at the border, but somehow, when you are driving dogs across countries until the early hours, there isn't much time for photos!

So instead, we have a few beautiful goodbye moments from Sanela as she waved them off.

We think Maya has definitely earned a little rest!

And what better way to keep our 30 Days of Hope moving than with a Happy Bus full of dogs heading home?

Seven shelter dogs leaving their old lives behind and heading towards the lives they have been waiting for.

Happy Bus, you have been VERY busy. Keep going! ❤️🐾🙏

Some love stories never really end. ❤️

They may no longer be waiting to share the day with us, curling up beside us, or filling our homes with the little moments we once took for granted. But somehow, even after they have gone, they remain part of our lives.

Their name still makes us smile. Their photograph brings back a hundred memories. And sometimes, even years later, we would give anything to hold them just one more time.

Because love does not disappear when we have to say goodbye.

A Personalised Pet Tribute Kennel offers a way to turn that love into something lasting. Their name. Their photograph. Your words. Their story.

And the love you have for them can go on to give hope to another.

By creating a Personalised Pet Tribute, you can become the exclusive sponsor of a kennel at Hope, helping rescued dogs receive the safety, care and precious time they need for their own second chance.

Because sometimes, the love we carry for one animal can become hope for another.
