We are grieving at Serenity Park…..

Our loved donkey Zach, died peacefully in his sleep on November 6. He was 30 years old having been adopted by us when he was 7 months old.

He died next to his best friend, ZedZed. They were inseparable as clients and friends know.

Zach was loved by so many. Zach was found lying peacefully with ZedZed standing guard over him.

We have cried a great deal here.
Zach lay in state so that all serenity animals could communicate their own farewell. It was deeply touching to witness how some of the herd expressed their sorrow and love for Zach - some groomed him; some whinnied and simply stood a while……

ZedZed sought comfort from his half brother Zac and the rest of the herd and stood nearby observing as Zach was laid to rest at Serenity Park - his home for almost all his life.

I have wanted to create a montage of photos and videos to all of the life of this beautiful soul, and the joy and love he gave so many, but the grief has been deep and it will take time.

Below are photos sharing the intimate ritual given to all our animals as well as photos to share something profound that occurred when laying our beautiful good good donkey, Zach, to rest…..

ZedZed UPDATE:

Yesterday afternoon the veterinary surgeon rang to advise the surgery was successful.
The tumour (smaller than the original removed in 2023) was removed and a biopsy sent away for peace of mind.

Zed was snoozing off the anaesthetic with his faithful companion Zach the donkey by his side.

The vet commented on how closely bonded Zed and Zach are and how Zach’s calm presence before, during and after the surgery (yes Zach was present during the surgery as he was in 2023), helped Zed remain calm at all times. As many of yoh know Zach is never far from Zed’s side Even when he is being ridden - his little grey shadow is righf there 🫏

ZedZed will have at least a week of recovery at the equine hospital before coming home.

This is the best news as it is significant surgery that has risks attached but where there is hope, we will always fight for and support our beloved animals at Serenity Park.

Thank you all for your wonderful messages supporting ZedZed 🙏🏼🐎❤️

Our very beloved therapy and schoolmaster horse big ZedZed is back at the equine hospital where he will once again undergo surgery to remove the regrowth of a benign tumour in his head.

ZedZed underwent surgery in January 2023 for a similar tumour. We asked for your good wishes and prayers for ZedZed and we ask for the same again.

As always, his constant companion Zac the donkey is with ZedZed.

ZedZed is much loved by us and all our clients. This gentle giant has given so much to clients of all ages and abilities. He has given confidence, courage and joy to so many.

We will anxiously await the outcome of his surgery which will happen this week.
