๐Ÿงณ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ  We totally understand some pawrents like to bring familiar items to make their fur kids stay more comfy and homely. And we're all for it! ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿงณ๐Ÿ

But we also see a lot pawrents either struggle with what to bring, or beat themselves up for not bringing "the right" things.

So! This is our feedback based on over 17yrs of seeing alllllllllll different types of puds, pawrents and belongings, and what affect it has.

๐Ÿ  Firstly, we provide everything ๐Ÿ
The Suites are setup with:
- comfy bedding
- a small blanket
- litter tray/litter
- food & water bowl (water filled)
- toys
- All of which are thoroughly cleaned & sterilised between each furry guest.
- in a clean, smell free, temperature controlled environment.

So if you prefer not to bring anything, that's purrrrrrrfectly fine!

๐Ÿงณ๐Ÿ›๏ธ What is best to bring? ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿงณ
This one might surprise you - "less is more".

We find the cats who come along with just 1 or 2 simple things (not ALL of them) - a favourite toy, or a bed, maybe a T-shirt you have worn or a very small blanket, they are the ones to settle the best.

Those furry guests who's pawrents pack everything - beds, toys, tunnels, multiple blankets & sheets, dressing gown, 4x types of shoes, 4x types of bowls etc etc..... the cats don't use any of it. None, zip!

It's too much for them in a smaller space and to put it simply, they just get annoyed ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿป

They have no space because the Suite is filled with everything but the kitchen sink and the fur kids usually a) p*e on it all, b) push it all into a corner, c) stuff it all in the water bowl, or d) push it all into the litter tray. Which means we pull it out. Clean it all. And don't put it back in or they just do it again.

Cats can't talk. So you have to read their behaviours. And this is their way of saying "I've had enough! And all I want is my space back in my nice big unit and a nice cozy bed ..... with the awesome accommodation, and the lovely attention given to me from the caring wonderful people that look after me" .....(ok, we got a bit off track, but you get it ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ)

๐Ÿ’• So, if you find yourself torn over what to bring and what not what to bring, apply the simple rule of "less is more" and if we think they need something extra, we'll let you know and do our best to give it to them ๐Ÿ’•

Goodnight on this very chilly night, where all 29 furry guests are tucked up in our beds (ditched their own, for those who brought them ๐Ÿคฃ) and they have the heater on right through til morning ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ˜ป Our boy Huey loves to just smack things to get them to do what he wants ๐Ÿ˜ป

๐Ÿ”ฅ If he wants the fireplace on, he smacks the handle on it or smacks the timber box,
๐ŸšชIf he wants a door open, he'll smack it,
๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸฆฏThe vacuum cleaner, smackety-smack!
๐Ÿšฟ The drinking fountain needs more water? SMACK!.

๐Ÿ’™ He never uses claws and has never done his "smacking" to cause harm. It's just like he has lil arms that he wants to use to do things, like a person, but cant ๐Ÿ’™

One thing he does is "high5" so you can imagine the fun we had when we got given these TINY plastic hands ๐Ÿคฃ Oh boy Huey loves them!

He boxes them ๐ŸฅŠ High5s them ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿป And now calls us to have a chesty rub with the hands!!! Yes people, this is now a "thing" in our house.... ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿป

โ“Why don't we supply wet foodโ“
This is a sped up example of getting the wet food organised for our current guests. 24 out of 30 furry guests are on wet food and only 2 of them are the same.

To supply wet food for every single fur kid, every single day, would be an eye watering nightmare. From trying to organise before arrival, what each cat needs, going out shopping for the supplies to get every brand/type/flavour etc would be a full-time job in itself and take away sooooooooo much quality time we can be spending with our furry guests.

It's simply not practical. Not to mention the cost that would have to be added to every daily rate. We couldn't even pre-plan and buy on sale because we would need a shipping container out the back set up like a pet shop to allocate for every single cats different needs.

So this is why we ask our wet foodies to just come along with a supply of what you normally feed. Easy peasy!

๐Ÿฅฐ How many of you have fur kids that do this? ๐Ÿฅฐ
Furry guest Ziggy is demonstrating how some cats do this, as well as kneading (or "pawsies" as we call it). It's their way of self-soothing and it brings comfort, similar to that of when they were kittens and would do it to their Mumma cat.

The good thing with a furry guest like Ziggy is, his pawrents told us he also does it regularly at home. This gives us great comfort knowing he feels just as happy as he would at home with his family ๐Ÿ’™

โœจ Venice and Zala, our regular guests โœจ

With whiskers that twitch and soft little necks.

Just innocent kitties? Or so they would claim,

Though somehow their Suite doesn't look the same! ๐Ÿค”

The food bowls? Tipped over. No clue who did that.

"Perhaps," Venice said, "one of those other cats?" ๐Ÿˆ

While Zala sat blinking with wide golden eyes, ๐Ÿ‘€

As bedding lay scattered in a corner beside.

A shelf hit the floor sometime in the night,

But both cats claim they were out of sight. ๐Ÿคท

The litter tray somehow got tipped on its side,

An unfortunate "accident," both would decide.๐Ÿ’ก

Yet who could stay angry at faces so sweet?

With their butterfly kisses and pitter patter of feet? ๐Ÿพ ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜ป

โœจ Food glorious food โœจ Just a reminder:
- If your furry family member is on a special diet,
- Has a sensitive stomach & doesn't deal with food changes,
- Or is fussy and will only eat a certain type of food,

Pllllllllease bring their own foodโ—

There's this myth out there that "own food" equals too much trouble for us.

It rarely is. The 'trouble' for us happens at the other end. When we're faced with:
๐Ÿ’‰ Medical issues
๐Ÿคฎ Spew
๐Ÿ’ฉ Poo
๐Ÿ˜พUnhappy, or
๐Ÿ˜ฟ uncomfortable furry guests

Which all equal a huge amount of unnecessary stress on the cat it involves. As well as additional cleaning up (which takes away from time spent with ALL our furry guests) and time wasted on trying to solve a puzzle over mysterious symptoms and behaviours.

Tip 1 - if you think your cat's normal food is too much trouble for us, just ask. We're always 100% honest and will tell you if it is. (For example, we won't be p*eling prawns for a furry guest ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ). You would be surprised at what you might think is 'too much trouble' and what we think is just normal!

Tip 2- if you're unsure, bring it anyway. We will always hand back what we don't need to use!

๐Ÿ’– New Furry Guests ๐Ÿ’–
We never know how a new furry guest will go and neither do their pawrents.

Sometimes they settle in very quickly, as if they have been coming to us for their holidays, for years!

Others can be very shy and take a little extra time to eat normally and do all the basics. They might even be a pud who is so shy we barely see them! But they venture out at night.

If this is the case we gently talk to them many times through the day and let them know we're around without being a threat. We never launch in and see them as a 'challenge' to crack. We won't force them to do anything. Including not forcing them out onto the verandah area. We let them go at their own pace, in their own time. And that's ok.

We then give honest feedback to each fur kids pawrents and we usually get to see the progress they make over future visits. Getting braver and more trusting each time they come.

New furry guests need to be managed a little differently. With understanding, patience and realistic expectations (from us and their pawrents).

Some happy snaps of new furry guests over April ๐Ÿฅฐ
