Bring on the rain 🌧️🌈
This Autumn has been the driest we’ve had in the last 5 years with only 21mm recorded in our ‘on farm’ rain gauge. Watching the grass melt away and the paddocks turn to dust has been disheartening to say the least, especially coming into Winter.
Fingers crossed for brighter times ahead. With a week of predicted rain coming our way today was the perfect opportunity to concentrate on growing some winter feed for the horses. April to May is prime time to sow our winter active pastures here in the Hunter Valley, provided we get enough moisture 🤞🏻
Today Italian Ryegrass and fertiliser were spread in a couple of the paddocks that are on rest, with the forecast rain and unseasonably warm temperatures I’m praying we get a good flush of growth before the cold weather sets in. Having some excess feed on the ground will also be a blessing and one less thing to worry about when I head to the USA in early Spring.
