The update we’ve all been waiting for! Mya has found a new home, actually with our bather and Groomer in Training - Sarah!

When hearing the news that our favourite girl Mya was available to take home, Sarah immediately put in her interest, we took Mya to meet her possible new doggy house mates, Baxta and Sheeva, with having lots of sniffs and interest in each other, we believe they’ll be the best of friends 🥰🤞🏼

Big love to Myas previous owners having to make the hardest decision any dog owner should have to make, they have been a big part of my grooming life and to not see them again is already a sad thing!
I reckon I’ll bring Mya over for some fun play dates though as I know she’s a huge part of their lives 🩷

My career is more than “Just Grooming Dogs”

One of the most frustrating things groomers hear is, “You just groom dogs,” or “You get to play with puppies all day.” My personal favorite? “How’s your little dog business going?”

The truth is, professional grooming is one of the most physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding careers in the pet industry.

Every day, groomers work with sharp tools around moving animals. We identify skin issues, parasites, tumors, behavioral concerns, and changes in a pet’s health long before many owners notice them. We manage anxious pets, fearful pets, elderly pets, puppies experiencing grooming for the first time, and sometimes pets that simply do not want to be there. We do all of this while maintaining safety, precision, and compassion.

The physical demands alone are enough to end careers early. Many groomers experience chronic back pain, shoulder injuries, repetitive stress injuries, arthritis, and other long-term health issues. In our industry, it isn’t uncommon for groomers in their 30s to joke about being “geriatric” because of the wear and tear the profession places on their bodies.

Then there’s the emotional side.

We carry the weight of difficult decisions, matted pets that need shaved for their welfare, behavioral challenges, client expectations, and the constant responsibility of caring for someone’s beloved family member. Burnout is incredibly common, and many talented groomers leave the profession after only a few years because the mental and physical demands become overwhelming.

Yet despite all of this, grooming is still often viewed as a hobby, a side hustle, or a job that anyone can do.

If we want the public to take grooming seriously, we have to start by taking ourselves seriously.

That means running professional businesses. Continuing our education. Investing in our skills. Charging appropriately for our expertise. Holding ourselves to higher standards. Supporting one another instead of tearing each other down. Most importantly, it means recognizing that what we do matters.

Professional grooming is not “playing with puppies.”

It is animal care.
It is behavior management.
It is health observation.
It is artistry.
It is customer service.
It is entrepreneurship.
It is a profession.

And until we start treating it like one, we can’t expect the rest of the world to do the same.

Just something that has really been on my mind lately as I navigate owning a business and seeing this industry as a whole. I will and always will fight for my fellow groomers until even after I retire my shears ✂️

LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME 🩷
I know I’m not meant to have favourites but Mya here is one of them - she’s such a beautiful girl and she is looking for a new home, unfortunately due to her owners age it’s getting harder to take care of her, so she’s entrusted me to find Mya the best home possible!
And believe me if I wasn’t just about to have a baby, Mya would be coming home with me no questions asked!!
She’s the sweetest girl and will smother you with hugs and kisses - her first few grooms will be discounted for the new owners (with me of course)
She’s a typical Alaskin Malamute, she will talk to you so you never feel lonely!!
She is 15 years old but still acts like the youngest puppy at the dog park! She loves a walk and sticking her head out of the window in the car to feel the wind in her face!

We are looking for the most perfect home for her so if you would like to meet her please reach out to me at 0491 968 357 or send a message to my business page🩷

Think only fluffy dogs need grooming? Think again! 🐾

These gorgeous short-haired babies – Dalmatians, Dachshunds, Amstaffs and Jack Russells etc – all have one thing in common… they shed A LOT more than most people realise!

Regular deshedding treatments help remove that loose undercoat before it ends up all over your floors, couch, clothes and car seats. They also help keep your dog’s skin and coat healthy, reduce odours and leave their coat feeling soft, shiny and fresh.

If you’re constantly finding little hairs stuck to everything you own, it might be time to book your short-haired pooch in for a deshed!

We recommend a regular schedule of 8-12 weeks in the cooler months and 6-8 weeks during warmer weather!

Just because they don’t need a haircut doesn’t mean they don’t need grooming. 🐶✨

A bit of a vulnerability post today … I’ve had 8 cancellations this week. That’s two full days of work gone. 😞

To be honest, it’s really disheartening. I know things happen but 8 people in a week? I am dreading looking at my phone!

As I have previously shared I’m currently pregnant and trying my absolute best to keep everyone looked after, keep my business running, and make plans for when I go on maternity leave.

Dog grooming is a very physical job and realistically I’ll probably need to stop working from mid to late August.

What worries me most isn’t even this week’s lost income. It’s what happens when I do find someone to take over while I’m away.

I’ve been working hard to find a replacement groomer so my clients aren’t left without care while I’m on maternity leave. But if someone steps into the role and a week like this happens I still have to pay that person! It’s not just me not earning money it will actually be costing me money!

I care about my clients and their dogs, and I’m doing everything I can to make sure everyone is looked after while I’m away.

If you’ve been thinking about putting off your dog’s groom until later in the year, please keep in mind that later might not be available. If everyone delays now, there simply won’t be enough appointments to fit everyone in before I finish up.

I’m trying my hardest to do the right thing by everyone before my baby arrives, and still keep looking after myself too which is really important. All I’m asking is that you please keep your appointments.

I know people think their dogs don’t need grooming in Winter because they think they will be cold … but that’s not really the case. Mats still form, coats still need maintenance and your dogs can end up uncomfortable if grooming is left too long. We can often stretch appointments out a little, but cancelling and waiting for warmer weather is not ideal your dog can suffer.

Sorry for the long post and being vulnerable but this week has really gut punched me and had me in a flap.

As I shared with you all a few weeks ago… I am becoming a new mum🥰

It’s all very exciting and a bit scary all rolled into one. I really want to enjoy my baby and take some maternity leave but I have worked so hard to build my little business and I also want to ensure I keep everyone happy here too.

I had a couple of promising leads lined up to cover me while I planned on being on maternity leave but unfortunately they’ve fallen through, so I thought I would throw it out to my amazing community because you just never know who might see it…
