Hand Stripping: What Is It?

🐾 Hand stripping is a specialised grooming technique designed for certain wire-and harsh-coated dog breeds.

Unlike clipping, which cuts the coat, hand stripping involves carefully removing the dead outer coat by hand! This helps maintain the coat’s natural texture, colour, and protective qualities.

🌿 Why choose hand stripping?

When performed correctly, hand stripping can:
✨ Maintain the correct harsh coat texture
✨ Support the coat’s natural weather-resistant properties
✨ Keep the breed’s traditional appearance
✨ Remove dead coat and encourage healthy coat regrowth

Hand stripping depends on the individual dog’s coat, breed, condition and grooming history. So unfortunately not suitable for every dog!

Now! Meet the model:

Ida the German Pointer had her hand stripping session today, which took a total of 3.5 hours, as it had been a while since she’s been stripped. She did very well (though a bit energetic), and Airlie received loads of kisses and cuddles🥰
Though she’s glad it’s all done now, as a hand stripping session on her last day before maternity leave, was a bold choice, it’s very physically demanding😂

A little update for my lovely clients 🐾🤍

With my maternity leave starting next week, I’ll have my amazing staff looking after your pups. They are paid for their time regardless of whether their day is fully booked, which means that when a client cancels at the last minute or doesn’t show up, I’m still required to pay my staff, and unfortunately, that cost comes directly out of my pocket.

I completely understand that life happens and sometimes appointments need to be changed. However, last-minute cancellations and no-shows make a huge difference to us, especially when I’m trying to keep my girls’ days full and ensure they have consistent work while I’m on maternity leave.

So, during my leave, our cancellation/no-show policy will be enforced more strictly, particularly for late cancellations and missed appointments. I really appreciate everyone understanding that this isn’t about being difficult, greedy or harsh, it’s simply about making sure the business can continue to run fairly and sustainably while I’m away. 🤍

I would also love, love, LOVE if you could book your pup’s appointments in advance! 🐶

Having full days booked for the girls makes such a huge difference and gives me peace of mind knowing they have plenty of pups to keep them busy while I’m off enjoying this special time with my little one.

Thank you so much for all your continued support, understanding and loyalty. I’m so incredibly grateful for every single one of you and for trusting us with your fur babies. 🥹🤍

Meet Sarah🐾

Sarah has been a valued member of the Pretty Paws Boutique team for over a year now, working Mondays and Wednesdays as our wonderful dog bather, some of you will have already met Sarah plenty of times!

Over the past three months, she’s been training under Airlie in dog grooming and has been doing an incredible job! We’re so excited to see her continue to grow in her new role.

From 17th August, Sarah will be looking after all grooming appointments on Mondays and Wednesdays (and possibly Tuesdays if our summer season gets extra busy!), while Alyssa (see other post introducing Alyssa) will be grooming on Thursdays and Fridays.

Sarah has a real passion for deshed grooms so if your dog is due for a deshed treatment, we highly recommend booking in with Sarah!

While she’ll be taking some time to enjoy those precious newborn moments, you’ll likely see her before bub arrives and again when she’s ready afterwards.

✨ Wondering what will happen with your grooming appointments while Airlie is on maternity leave? We’ve got you covered! ✨

We’re so excited to officially introduce Alyssa, who has joined the Pretty Paws Boutique team!

From August 20th, Alyssa will be grooming on Thursdays and Fridays, while Sarah (see our previous post introducing Sarah!) looks after Mondays and Wednesdays.

Before taking on her own grooming appointments, Alyssa spent the past two months training to do grooms alongside Airlie but already has 3 years experience in dog bathing! She’s done an amazing job, and we’re so proud of how far she’s come already. We can’t wait to watch her continue to grow - and it’s safe to say the dogs already adore her!

Please join us in giving Alyssa a warm welcome to the Pretty Paws Boutique family. We’re so happy to have you with us all the way from Rutherglen! 💕

A very HAPPY birthday to my mumma bear 🩷

My mum is the most supportive, loving, caring and absolute powerhouse of a woman and I couldn’t love her anymore if I tried!! She is so strong and it truly inspires me everyday to one day become the amazing person she is. Everyday I feel like I learn something new about mum and it never surprises me just how amazing and innovative she is.

I’m so excited to bring my baby into the world and for him to grow up with the best grandma ever. 🥹

Today marked the very start of the 2 weeks we’ll be offering 50% for short haired de-sheds! Arnie the Boxer was our very first pup to receive this offer! He did so well for his pamper session and definitely lost a lot of undercoat, it was well needed!

We have so many pups booked in under this service for the next two weeks, I’m so excited as these are some of my favourite grooms to do! 🥰
