Freedom Rise Galloways invites you to a field day that will be held in September.
Venue: Freedom Rise Miniature Belted Galloway Stud,
12340 D’Aguilar Hwy, YARRAMAN S.E. QLD
Date: Sunday 14th September 2025
Cost: $30 per head for members of a Galloway Association (ABGA, AGA or GA), $40 for members of a non-Galloway Cattle Association, $50 for the general public and $20 for children under 12 years. Morning and afternoon teas and lunch will be provided.
Here’s what your day will look like
• First, we’ll have a tour of the herd and a cuppa. Arrival anytime after 7.30 is fine
• 9.30am: you’ll see how we break our weanlings and start their halter training. Those who wish will be able to participate in the process.
• 11.30 am: we’ll show you how to apply an ear tattoo. For those who want to have a go, we’ll have a few steers available to practice on.
• 12.30pm: Lunch is served. We provide a full buffet lunch with some fantastic home-made desserts .
• Whilst you’re having dessert, we’ll be drawing our lucky door prizes.
• After lunch you’ll all get to make your own lead which you can keep. We’ll show you in easy steps how to make a simple, but effective (and tidy) knot to hold your cattle.
• 2pm This year we will have a guest speaker with nearly 35 years’ experience in showing cattle. She will be giving two separate talks (using our animals as examples). The first will cover “Basic Structure for Breeding Soundness”. This will be focused on the conformation of hips, pins, width of thurls, tail set and calving. Having all of these correct will reduce vets bills and increase profit. Secondly, basic angulation and movement. Understanding how an animal moves allows us to understand why their bones need particular angles to reduce stress and increase production.
Afternoon tea and a Q & A session will follow depending on the time.
