Kehoe Keen To Sort Out Hometown Cup Prospects (Narromine Sunday)

A desire to have a runner in, and have a shot at winning, his home town Cup sees trainer Allan Kehoe send consistent gelding Prince Of Sorts west for Sunday’s $40,000 Three Rivers Machinery Narromine Cup (1600m).
Kehoe isn’t from Narromine, he’s a Coonamble native and it’s that Cup he’d like to see the five-year-old in later in the preparation.
That race isn’t until October 11 but Kehoe feels Prince Of Sorts is well placed fourth-up at Narromine where he’d hope to get another win on the board.
“I’m a Coonamble boy and I want a Coonamble Cup, we’re going to space his runs and have him ready for that,’’ Kehoe said.
“He had a good spell because we were getting his feet right and he’s absolutely flying. The form all around him is brilliant.”
Prince Of Sorts, $4.40 with TAB on Saturday, has barrier one and 61kg in the Narromine Cup and Kehoe said racing in restricted room brought him undone at Newcastle last time out.
He said he felt the horse was tracking toward a win with his second-up placing at Wyong.
“He got stuck behind a slow horse and couldn’t get out when he wanted to, it left him flat footed,’’ Kehoe said.
“He’s won three of his races leading and the others just sitting off so you need to keep him going.
“The horse is flying, I thought he was ready to win in town. His run at Wyong was a very good run, the horses that ran second and fourth came out and won at Canterbury.”
Those horses were Doradus and Federal Reserve.
Kehoe said he’ll leave the tactics to Shannen Llewellyn, who has been on board in his last two starts and his latest win on a soft track at Coffs Harbour last spring.
He’s added the visors and hopes Llewellyn can keep him in a rhythm.
Easy Trapezee will be searching for his first win in the Buy Your Kosciuszko Tickets Plate (1300m) and Kehoe is quietly confident he can be more than competitive.
The four-yeard-old has been unplaced in his four starts to date but the Wyong trainer was encouraged by his recent trial win and hgopes he can take a step forward from that on race day.
“He raced all right in his first prep, they weren’t terrible runs and he’s a knockout chance,’’ he said.
“He’s not an 800m horse and he trialled really well and he’s had another 800m grass jump out since.
He’s forward for the run.
“He took forever to grow up, he’s a very big horse, but it’s the right race and if he’s going to win one it could be that one going off his trial.”
