🌺 Lest We Forget 🌺

The clinic will be closed tomorrow for Anzac Day, as we pay tribute to those who served, including the animals who stood by their side.

Today you might see a purple poppy worn alongside the traditional red poppy. This purple poppy is a symbol of remembrance for all of the animals who fought alongside the ANZACs, the silent heroes.

🐾 Mobility Month Case Study: Napoleon 🐾

As a veterinary nurse at Darwin My Vet Service, I see first-hand how mobility issues can affect our aging pets. Recently, I experienced this with my own dog, Napoleon.

Napoleon is my 12-year, 10-month-old male de-sexed Border Collie (pictured below) who has always been incredibly active. Over time, I began to notice subtle changes — he was slower to get up from lying down and had started favouring one side.

Knowing these can be early signs of joint pain, I brought him into the clinic for a full mobility assessment. On examination, our veterinarian identified wear in his hip joints, consistent with osteoarthritis, likely due to years of high activity.

We started Napoleon on a tailored arthritis management plan, which included:

◾️A joint supplement to support his joints
◾️An injectable treatment to help relieve pain and improve mobility

The difference has been amazing. Napoleon is now getting up more easily, moving comfortably, and is back to running around happily again.

Outcome:
As both a nurse and a pet owner, this experience reinforced just how important early intervention can be. With the right care, we can significantly improve our pets’ comfort and quality of life — even in their senior years.

Mobility Aim:
It’s not just about adding years to their life — it’s about adding happy, comfortable years where they can continue doing what they love.

Description: Entire female (on heat), approx 2 years old, medium mixed breed (white with red speckles), no microchip or collar.
