Should you be regularly clipping your dog’s nails? Most dogs require clipping their dew claws (thumbnails) every 6-8 weeks to prevent overgrowth. Additionally, older dogs or dogs that do not regularly run on pavement often need general nail clipping every few months. Keeping your pet’s nails short is essential to facilitate comfortable movement and grip on hard floors and prevent painful nail curling and overgrowth into the footpads.

If you need help clipping your pet’s nails, consult our paw-sitively professional team!

If your cat is prone to vomiting up the odd hairball but seems otherwise well, you may be able to help reduce hairball episodes by:

😸 Regularly brushing them (at least twice weekly) to remove loose fur

😸 The regular administration of a safe, veterinary-approved, palatable laxative paste

😸 Increasing the moisture and/or fibre content of your cat’s diet to help any hair pass more easily through their gut.

We recommend a prompt check-up with our experienced veterinary team if your cat is vomiting regularly or showing any other symptoms of unwellness.

With many parasite control options available for your pets, preventing flea irritation and tick-related illness in your dog is now easier than ever!

Depending on your lifestyle and preferences, we can recommend tasty monthly or quarterly chews for your pet or topically applied products for those pets with particularly sensitive stomachs. Some of these parasite prevention products include convenient additional intestinal or heartworm prevention treatment.

For personalised advice on the safest and most thorough parasite control for your dog, consult our veterinary team.

To check your cat for a flea infestation, search their fur for adult fleas or dark black specks of flea poo known as “flea dirt”.

You can also assess them for flea-related skin irritation symptoms, such as overgrooming around their belly, lower back, and hindlegs, or red scabby skin lumps. But do you know what’s even more efficient? Banishing fleas altogether with a year-round flea control program!

For information on easy and effective flea prevention for your four-legged family members, consult our helpful team.

We have recently undertaken a number of TPLO surgeries at JRV for dogs with our surgical partners VSOS. Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) surgery is a common procedure for dogs with a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament (CCL).

This surgery helps dogs with torn ACL's regain their mobility.
✅TLPO stabilises the knee-joint, allowing your furry buddy to run and play pain free
✅Expert Care: Our team of vets and nurses help guide your pet through a successful recovery
✅Happy Tails: The majority of dogs begin walking and playing normally at 12-16 weeks and return to their active lifestyles.

Thanks to Dr India Irvine, Ignacio adn the VSOS team for thier expert work and keeping our patients happy and healthy ❤️

Who are the four “friends” we don’t want your new pup to become closely acquainted with? Why, roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, and tapeworm, of course!

Young pups can become infected with these intestinal worms through the placenta or via their mother’s milk. Infected puppies may show symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, bottom itchiness, or a failure to thrive.

To protect your puppy against intestinal worms, consult our team about safe and thorough parasite control routines.

We’ll help those worms to get a wriggle on and out of your pup!

To help keep your cat “feline fine”, ensure you protect them against the effects of common infectious diseases by keeping their vaccinations up to date.

Depending on your cat’s particular lifestyle, they may require only the core F3 vaccination (against feline panleukopenia and two common causes of cat flu), or they may be recommended to also receive additional vaccinations (such as feline leukaemia virus and chlamydia).

These vaccines are administered in a series of three injections for kittens and then again every 1-3 years after that.

Contact our feline-friendly team to check on your cat’s vaccine status!
