THE Leyland brothers have nothing on Theresa Bateup. The hard-working Kembla Grange trainer has “travelled all over the countryside” with her horses in the last week and a half.“In nine days I went to Gosford, Nowra, Albury, Goulburn, Wagga, Moruya and Port Macquarie,” she said.“Albury (whe...

The trip to Albury yesterday was worthwhile with Champ De Fleurs breaking her Maiden in impressive style, ridden by Shaun Guymer 🏆. “Wednesday” has improved with each start this preparation and has rewarded her owners patience with a well deserved win 👏. Wednesday still has improvement to come and we look forward to seeing her add more wins to her record🤩. Congratulations to all of her owners and thank you to our staff and supporters 🥰

It was another Cup winner at Sapphire Coast Turf Club on Thursday with Master Riley taking out the Lakeview Hotel Merimbula Cup (and stable mate Victory at Omaha finishing 3rd)! Master Riley was ridden a treat by Amy McLucas and bought up the Cups double (Bega Cup / Merimbula Cup) for the stable and Amy 🏆🔥. That was Master Riley’s 3rd career win from just 13 starts and there looks to be more in store for the handsome son of Hellbent ❤️. Congratulations to all owners and thank you again to everyone that is part of the team 🤩

What an amazing Bega Cup Carnival at Sapphire Coast highlighted by Direct Fire winning the 150th edition of the Bega Cheese Bega Cup🏆🔥. Leading all the way and toughing it out in the straight after having to do some work early, Direct Fire aka “Drake” proved too strong with a great ride by Amy McLucas 🥰.
We had an awesome weekend starting with the Expo on Friday night, Calcutta on Saturday night and culminating in a great night at Lakeview Hotel on Sunday following 2 fantastic days of racing at Sapphire Coast Turf Club. The committee at Sapphire Coast Turf Club are to be commended on hosting a fantastic carnival 👏.
We had a successful weekend, not only winning the Cup but also collecting 2nd placings with Yes Isla Yes and Master Riley, whilst Sebastian’s Flyer and Champ De Fleurs were 3rd place getters. A big thank you to all of our owners and friends that came out over the weekend, especially those that had travelled long distances. As always it is a team effort but I would especially like to thank Shane Evans from Connected Horse Transport for getting our horses safely to the races and home, Sonya and Shaun for looking after our horses impeccably at the races and to Sonya, Michelle and Lauren for the amazing job they did in setting up our table at the Expo and putting together our “show” bags ❤️😍. Congratulations to our owners and again a big thank to all that celebrated with us and we hope you enjoyed the weekend as much as did 🥳

Tough as guts Kembla Grange galloper Direct Fire showcased his determination when holding on for memorable victory in Sunday’s $80,000 Bega Cup.  Ridden by Amy McLucas for trainer Theresa Bateup, the four-year-old worked hard for the lead in the 1600m Sapphire Coast Turf Club feature race, and ...

It was a superb effort by Tartana at Warwick Farm yesterday leading all the way for gun apprentice, Anna Roper 🔥. It was a well deserved metro win for the tough daughter of Invader. “Dolly” had been accepted in 4 races over the past 2 weeks only for all 4 meetings to be abandoned! The wait was well worth it and was Dolly’s 4th career win at start 17. A tough and tenacious mare, Dolly was expertly rated by Anna Roper, who has built a great strike rate with our stable 🤩. Congratulations to all owners and especially her breeder and part owner, John. Thank you as always to our staff and supporters and very appreciative of all the messages received 🥰

We ended 2024 on a winning note with our final runner for the year, Sebastian’s Flyer producing a strong finish to take out the final race at Sapphire Coast yesterday 🏆. Coming off a freshen up, back to 1200m “Jordan” had a great run in transit and hit the line strongly to win his 2nd race in just 6 starts since joining the stable (in addition to 3 placings). Another great ride by Jess Taylor bringing up win number 86 for the Bateup / Taylor combination 🤩. Congratulations to owners, Jayson and Richard and thank you for sending Sebastian’s Flyer to us ❤️. A huge thank you to our staff for their hard work throughout the year and looking forward to a successful 2025.

Kembla Grange trainer Theresa Bateup readily admits that Crackalacka was no Via Sistina, but an honest mare who endeared herself to every member of the stable staff.
