We give paralysis tick warning year round for pets in the Illawarra, but here's a reminder that fleas can be year round too! There is a bit of a stereotype that these parasites are exclusive to summer.
What to look for -
Itching and scratching. They often chew at the base of their tail and lower back
Dark flecks of flea dirt in the coat. If you can get some of this flea dirt onto a wet white paper towel, the flea dirt will turn blood red
Fleas crawling around under the fur close to the skin, obviously
What you can do -
Topical flea/tick prevention for cats
Topical, oral or injectable Bravecto Quantum for dogs
Treat all the animals in the household together
Some unlucky pets are allergic to fleas and need additional help from your vet
