This Mother’s Day, let’s stand for Mother Nature before it’s too late! 💪💚Adelaide Park Lands Association have organised an event to raise awareness.
Today, Mother’s Day at 3:00pm, at Montefiore Hill, North Adelaide to defend Possum Park, the people’s Adelaide Park Lands, our precious urban forest - and our poor vulnerable wildlife who don’t know what’s about to hit them.
We will be tying yellow ribbons around the trees bordering the North Adelaide Golf Course a heartfelt symbol of love, resistance, and solidarity for the magnificent living world now facing destruction.
In coming days, as early as Monday morning, chainsaws could begin tearing through this irreplaceable landscape. Fences have already gone up. Trees have already been marked. The silence from decision-makers has been deafening.
But we will not stay silent.
We are calling on every person who loves Adelaide, who values nature, who believes wildlife matters, to come and stand together. Stand for the koalas clinging to these trees. Stand for the birds whose songs fill our mornings. Stand for the adorable possums, the 150 species of wildlife that inhabit this area, the biodiversity, the irreplaceable ecosystem, the shade, the history, the lungs and soul of our city.
This is not just about trees.
This is about protecting the heart of Adelaide.
The 585 trees slated for destruction are living giants that have stood through generations. They clean our air, cool our city, shelter wildlife, and connect people to nature in the middle of urban life. Once they are destroyed, they can never truly be replaced.
Future generations will ask what we did when these trees were threatened.
Let the answer be: we stood together.
Bring your family. Bring your friends. Bring your children. Bring your voices, your compassion, your courage and don’t forget to bring mum too.
Some yellow ribbons will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own.
The Park Lands belong to the people, not to privilege, profit, or political power.
