Favourite watering hole
Bees are creatures of habit via the grapevine if they know where water is they will take it over and keep coming back, in bigger numbers everyday. I am amazed at the quantity they drink on hot days like this. They're all here communally from different hives even from the neighbours (this is how varroa will spread if it gets here) I popped a couple of spider plant pups in there to save any drowning bees to act as a life raft. The bowl is not ideal for bees as the sides are virtually straight up and down and it's slippery but it was good for the birds in our backyard and we've had to raise the bowl up today as the bees are out super early in the morning quenching their thirst and we needed to raise it to spare the dogs from the spicy flies. But they will decide where they're getting their water from and we just have to adapt 🤷♀️
Bee Highway very busy today
The bee highway is abuzz with activity today as the bees are coming from our hives to the small water source on an outside table. We don't know why this appears to be one of their favourites. There is a cast iron bath right next to the hives but they're not keen on that and instead choose to travel right up near the house. We have to make sure to not stand in the middle of said highway or they'll slam into us😂 keeping the dogs out of the backyard on hot days is a challenge but must be done. Especially for Murphy, she's not up for another encounter and to be honest neither are we 🐝🐶
Pop some water around your yard for the insects and the birds ❤️🐝 the bees might not share though
