🐾 Meet Bear 🐾

Bear, a gorgeous 12-year-old Maltese X, recently visited the clinic for a De Angelis Surgery performed by Dr Anaban and Dr Candice. 💙

This procedure is used to help stabilise a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament — an injury that can cause pain, limping, and difficulty walking in both dogs and cats.

Bear was such a brave boy throughout his surgery and recovery journey, and we are so pleased to see him recovering beautifully. ✨
He’s now walking like a brand new dog!

Please join us in wishing Bear continued happy healing and many more comfortable adventures ahead. 🐶💕

Meet Rupert 🐾

This lovable Saint Bernard is a big goofy giant with a heart of gold 💛 He recently visited us to be desexed, and while he may not have quite fit in the dog run (we had to get creative!), he made up for it by being the sweetest, most well-behaved patient.

Despite his size, Rupert was gentle, calm, and an absolute joy to care for from start to finish. We’re pretty sure he left a lasting impression on the whole team… and maybe took up a little extra space in our hearts too 🐶

Wishing you a smooth recovery, Rupert!

PSA to Winchelsea and Surrounds - 🐣🌸 Easter Safety Tips for Your Pets 🌸🐣

Easter is a wonderful time for family, fun… and a few hidden dangers for our furry friends! Here are some important reminders to keep your pets safe this holiday:

🐶 Chocolate is toxic
Even small amounts can make pets very unwell. Keep all Easter eggs and treats out of reach.
🐱 Hot cross buns & baked goods
These often contain raisins or sultanas, which can cause serious kidney issues in pets.
🍬 Watch out for xylitol
This common artificial sweetener (found in sugar-free lollies, gum, and some baked goods) is extremely toxic to dogs and cats and can cause a rapid drop in blood sugar and liver failure—even in tiny amounts.
🌷 Toxic plants
Lilies (especially dangerous for cats), daffodils, and other Easter flowers can be harmful if ingested.
🎁 Easter egg hunts
Be mindful of where treats are hidden—pets can sniff them out before you do!
🧺 Packaging hazards
Foil wrappers, plastic grass, and ribbons can cause choking or intestinal blockages.

If you suspect your pet has eaten something they shouldn’t, as we will be closed from the 03/04/2026-06/04/2026, contact Geelong Animal Emergency immediately on 5222 2139.

Winchelsea Vet Hospital will resume hours from 8-6pm on Tuesday the 07th of April.

Wishing you and your pets a safe and happy Easter! 💛🐾
