Then Box Divvy is not for you. This is a coop and things are in handfuls NOT exact items. You need to be flexible but you'll always get good value. We are a group of community minded people wanting to change the food system. Reduce packaging and pay our farmers fairly. By reducing our carbon footprint by 90% this means we buy in bulk as a group and then share it. We need to be a bit flexible. You will know roughly what you will get but you can’t get exactly. We have a Packing Guide but the numbers will change as produce is smaller or larger. Mostly you will get extras overall. HOW DO I KNOW WHAT I SPEND? EASY. You will pay the STARTING ORDER PLUS if you join in SPLITS or ADD Groceries. At the bottom of MY ORDER you will see the MAX you will pay if all your SPLITS get over the line, any groceries you’ve ordered plus Starting Order . If this amount pending is too much you can reduce the SPLITS or Groceries you joined BEFORE CUTOFF. PACKAGING
Much of the produce comes loose so do provide your Hubster with a NAME LABELLED BAG: ALSO - calico/wash nets to put handfuls in (do not expect your Hubster to provide paper bags please): Bring in your old icecream containers for the Hub to put soft stuff in. If you get an item in plastic recycle it in your soft plastic bin. We don't interrupt the packing from farmer to you so manage this please. Farmers are trying to work out how to transport produce and it can’t always be plastic free - for the moment. The Sugar Cane bags are not strong, don't last and definitely not airtight. Cardboard and paper fall apart. New technology is being worked on. So? Join our group to make a difference. You have the power to do so. Cut your food bill significantly.

Christmas Pantry Discounts
We hate out-of-stocks and disappoint members – but now that we carry close to 1000 pantry lines, some out-of-stocks are inevitable. We’re learning.

Whilst we may have under-estimated demand for some products, our stock of other products on the other hand is bulging at the seams. Something has to give. And so: giving is what we do:

• Blackmarket Roasters and Wonder Coffee, whilst still freshly roasted, is 10% off
• We still have tonnes of Heinz Mild American mustard: out they go at $1 each (BBD February 2026)
• All Vintage Valley Nougat (which is for special occasions only) will go 10% off until sold
• Ditto with Abla’s Baklava: 10% off until sold (and there’s plenty left still)
• The hot weather might make you thirsty: Remedy Ginger Beer is 12% off and all Sodaly flavours down to $4.95 (15% off)
• If you want to mix it with the best: Fever-Tree sodas and 500ml mixers are down to $2.50 (70% off RRP)
• Clover Fields Candles and Diffusers are reduced to $2.50: that’s almost cost price.
• Mokate cookies are down to $4 per pack.
• Lastly, we have 37 left of the Oh My Gingerbread Christmas Fruit Cake 1Kg – now 10% off until stocks last.

Phew…!

Market Update
The days leading up to Christmas is when produce prices usually go a little haywire: farmers don’t really know how much to send to the markets given it’s a short week, whilst shoppers – having held back for the past few weeks – throw caution into the wind and BUY BUY BUY whatever takes their fancy. That usually translates to higher prices, plus a good dose of uncertainty.
So we’re taking a punt here and there that prices don’t go through the roof: good-sized KP mangoes should be around $2.60 (and a whole tray for $32), 2kg cherry boxes under $18 a kilo, white grapes dropping below $10 a bunch, and all berries still reasonably priced.
The only near-certainty is that supply of apricots, peaches and nectarines will be excellent – with plums following in their wake. To ensure a consistent supply of summer fruit over the next couple of weeks, members should consider a 5kg tray of stone fruit.
Among the remaining fruit, papaya, limes, grapefruit and oranges are cheap, pears, bananas, lychees, passionfruit and watermelon are reasonable, but apples and pineapple (if you can get it) are expensive.

Most vegetables should remain cheap: corn ($1.18), broccoli, broccolini, cabbages, kale, cauliflowers, carrot, beetroot, continental cucumbers, basil, most leafy greens, celery, lettuce of every persuasion, garlic, pumpkins, zucchini – even onions and potatoes are dropping in price. Tomatoes are dearer, but truss tomatoes – both regular and baby – are cheaper than last week.
Red capsicums are still moving at stratospheric levels (but greens have come down to earth), whilst Lebanese cucumbers are tightening: continentals are probably the better option.

Corn

Mangoes mean summer, and so does corn. Local growers are picking corn like mad: Manuel Xerri in Agnes Banks, Charlie Vella in Freemans Reach and his brother Angelo, Gerard Saad in Wilberforce, and a few more besides. So with this much supply, we reckon a dollar a cob is a fair price. Last time we checked, they were $1.90 in Coles. And thank God, no corny jokes from Anton!

Mangoes

Gee, we could have had almost every type of fruit in this week’s Divvy Deal – but if we have to choose, it’s going to be KP Mangoes. They’re mostly from Mareeba in North Queensland, and they’re considered the best-tasting KP around. Your Box Divvy price? $2 a pop for a medium-large KP, or $29 a tray.

Mokate Continental Cookies

Mokate continental cookies from Europe are an institution. We’ve had 5 pallets with nearly 5000 packs delivered this week. Most shops are selling these for around $7-8, but at Box Divvy they’re $4.95. However…until stocks last: that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

12/12/2025

Fresh produce prices usually rise in the lead-up to Christmas – mainly because of higher demand – but this year, prices have largely remained reasonable (if not downright cheap). But as always, there are some notable exceptions.

Most fruit is excellent value: nectarines, peaches, apricots, white grapes, mangoes, bananas, all berries (except blackberries), limes, papaya, grapefruit and watermelons are all good value. Rockmelons appear pricey, but they’re large.

But cherries – as is often the case in the week before Christmas – are starting to tighten. This is as much a function of stronger demand as it is of reduced supply: the further we get into the season, the greater the chance of crop losses due to wet & wild weather. Whilst growing regions in northern Victoria have had steady conditions, Orange and Young have struggled with rain and hail. Nevertheless, the quality is excellent – and still under $20 a kilo (with the 2kg box at $17.50/kg).

Apples and pears are still available, if you must… Also, pineapples remain scarce.

In vegetables, the news is even better: corn, broccoli, cabbage, beans, snow peas, sugar snap, continental cucumbers, basil, mint, all lettuces, celery, mushrooms, garlic, pumpkin, zucchini and all tomatoes varieties are cheap. Even onions and potatoes are edging down.

Still expensive: red capsicums and cauliflowers.

All-in-all, it looks like a bumper Christmas crop!

Know your onions

Australia’s kitchens are full of flavour thanks to three onion stars:
Spring Onions: Long green stalks with tiny white bulbs. Mild, fresh, and perfect raw or in stir-fries.
Eschalots: Small bulbs with a sweet, delicate taste. Ideal for sauces, dressings, and roasting
Shallots: long leaves no bulb on end. Super mild and perfect for salads, vinaigrettes.

Continental cucumbers

A large shipment of freshly picked continental cucumbers is making its way from South Australia to Sydney. This will push prices down to a dollar a piece. Good timing, as Lebanese cucumbers are tightening.
