A Special Place to Remember ❤️

A big thank you to Sam from Queensland for sharing these beautiful photos and video of her incredible chicken area.

Set high on a hill, surrounded by towering pine trees and beautiful green lawn, it really is the most peaceful setting for her beautiful hens. 🐔

And Sam has some lovely things to say about her coop too:

"We love love love love the coop! Looks great, plenty of room, easy to clean and collect eggs, beautifully finished. Great complement to our backyard."

We couldn't be happier to hear that!

But what makes this space even more special is the beautiful bench Sam has placed in memory of a loved one who has passed away.

🐔 KEEPING YOUR CHICKENS LOCKED UP? HERE'S HOW TO KEEP THEM HAPPY!

With the ongoing need for good poultry biosecurity, along with foxes, other predators and neighbourhood restrictions, there are plenty of reasons why backyard chickens may need to spend more time safely inside their chicken run rather than free ranging.

But being safely locked up doesn't have to mean being bored!

We've just published our new blog: “Chicken Enrichment Ideas: 30 Ways to Keep Backyard Chickens Happy When They Can’t Free Range.”

A good enrichment setup encourages chickens to scratch, forage, peck, climb, explore and stay active — helping make the most of the space they have.

Try:
-Hanging a cabbage, broccoli or lettuce in a net
- Turning a bale of hay into a treasure hunt with treats hidden inside
- Adding extra perches at different heights
- Hanging apples or corn cobs
- Giving them boiled carrots to investigate
- Adding logs, branches and other things to climb over
- Creating a dust-bathing area
- Trying a chicken swing or even a xylophone
- Hiding mealworms or treats around the run so they have to forage for them

You don't need expensive toys or a huge space. A few simple changes can make a chicken run much more interesting and give your flock something to do throughout the day.

It’s not actually the chickens that attract mice and rats. It’s the food, water and shelter. Spilt chicken feed can be a particularly big attraction, especially if rodents can also find somewhere safe to hide.

We’ve just updated our popular blog with practical tips on how to keep rats and mice away from your chicken coop, including:
