🐢 Importance of Desexing

Desexing your pet is one of the best things you can do for their long-term health and wellbeing πŸ’›

At Whyalla Vet Clinic, we strongly recommend desexingβ€”not just to prevent unwanted litters, but for the many health and behavioural benefits it provides:

βœ”οΈ Reduces the risk of certain cancers
βœ”οΈ Helps prevent roaming and fighting
βœ”οΈ Can reduce behaviours like spraying, mounting, and aggression
βœ”οΈ Helps control the number of unwanted animals in our community

Every year, too many puppies and kittens end up without homes. Desexing is a simple step that makes a big difference 🐾

Not sure when your pet should be desexed? Our team is happy to chat and find the best option for you and your pet.

🚨 Parvo Cases on the Rise 🚨

Over the past month, we’ve unfortunately seen a significant increase in Parvovirus cases in our local community.

Parvo is preventable β€” but only through vaccination.

This disease is devastating, and it’s heartbreaking seeing so many dogs come through our clinic so unwell. Sadly, not all of them make it. Even with aggressive treatment, there is no guarantee of survival, especially in unvaccinated dogs or when it’s caught too late.

A common misconception is how Parvo spreads. Your dog doesn’t need to leave your yard to be at risk β€” the virus can easily be brought home on shoes, clothing, or other surfaces.

πŸ’‰ The best protection is up-to-date vaccinations:
β€’ Puppy vaccinations at 8, 12 & 16 weeks
β€’ Annual vaccinations as an adult

⚠️ Know the signs and act fast:
β€’ Vomiting or diarrhoea (often with a strong smell or blood)
β€’ Lethargy
β€’ Loss of appetite

If your dog shows any of these signs, seek veterinary care immediately.
