Big news for our animal loving community! 🐾

We’re thrilled to share that RSPCA ACT has received a $30 million co-funding commitment from the Australian Government to help bring our purpose-built Animal Welfare Campus in Pialligo to life.

This future-focused facility — our Project Home — will help us care for more animals, support more families, and strengthen our community for decades to come.

Project Home will be a game-changing space for animals, people, and our whole region, and we can’t wait to bring it to life together.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this vision and stood beside us on the journey so far 💙

Goose arrived as a stray with six tiny kittens in tow, just two weeks old. But Goose was always up against the odds. One of her kittens didn’t make it.

With the right care and a quiet foster home, Goose was able to raise her remaining kittens safely. But while she was a devoted mum, she was frightened of people and struggled to trust those trying to help her.

Her kittens were adopted quickly but in the shelter, Goose became stressed again.

It was another fantastic foster carer (who was already caring for one cat) In a quiet home, with a calm environment and even another cat for company, Goose began to change.

She relaxed. She trusted. She connected. She returned to the shelter and was adopted in just two days.

Please donate now to help provide urgent care, foster support and shelter for animals like Goose.

Well, 'kitten season' traditionally starts as the temperature gets warmer (that's when cats breed) and apparently it's supposed to fade away when cooler temps arrive.

Yeah naah.

We have lots of kittens available for adoption with more on the way (currently being raised in foster care).

These kittens have all been raised in nice, calm homes and are vaccinated, desexed, wormed, microchipped, everything. They're ready to be your new bestie for years to come.

Visit the shelter in Weston to adopt and please keep in mind the kitten you want might be adopted by the time you arrive, but there's almost certainly another kitten or cat here waiting for you.

Many of you are aware of Gus.

He's the delightful boy waiting to be adopted at RSPCA ACT. His former owner loved him dearly and together they were often without shelter or in unfortunate situations. Maybe you have met him before, around the way.

We're in love with Gus.

Coming to our Canberra Paws Walk (May 24th) event or buying a ticket to our raffle (tickets available at our shelter or at the event on the day) you'll be directly helping us care for Gus with whatever he needs until the magical day arrives when he finds a new home.

Our awesome partners have supplied some sensational prizes to make it worth your while so when you're at the shelter next, grab a few raffle tickets and just know that while perhaps you can't adopt Gus, you can certainly help him on his journey.

UPDATE (Tuesday): Rupert has been adopted. Thanks everyone for your interest. 🥰

This handsome little guy should be adopted fairly quickly we think...and we hope so because he's feeling a little bit ripped off right now.

That's because Rupert was fostered by one of our staff for a while and then a different foster carer took him in and loved him. Basically, this little fellow has enjoyed the good life in a warm, calm home.

Now all of a sudden he's back in the shelter for adoption and looks at us through the fence as if to say, "What the heck do you call this?" 😆 (Plus, we put a cone on him for a minor thing and he took that as if we were rubbing salt into the wound).

We've assured him that shelter life is only temporary. He's really a great little pup too. Just 6 months old, he's a Tenterfield Terrier. Rupert is crate trained but would rather sleep on your bed, he loves people, cats, dogs, the lot.

He's a unique breed and really well behaved, let's hope he gets adopted ASAP.

Norman has returned.

He was adopted two weeks ago but it turns out he doesn't get along with other males. It's a shame because he is otherwise very friendly, especially with people.

He's very hand-tame and loves to perch on the shoulders of our animal staff. He likes to climb as well, we've put a hammock in his two-story enclosure and he loves it.

So, let's try this again. Can you adopt Norman? He's great company and will gladly hang out with you and a desexed female.

He's really just a little boy, he's only 6 months old. Super friendly. We'd love to see him adopted and this time, we hope it's forever.

Thank you Canberra for once again showing your love for pets and your desire to adopt and help these pets live the life they were always meant to live.

Last week you adopted 57 animals, including the very popular, massive ginger boy named Fergus, the super handsome Jack Russell named Arlo and a plethora of kittens with amazing names (including Possum Magic and Dizzy Rascal).🤩

(Our foster carers come up with awesome names!)

There's plenty more animals needing a home however, so please visit the shelter between 10am and 3pm to meet your next new bestie.

See who's here waiting for adoption this week: https://buff.ly/Ns9LYGp

This Canberra Paws Walk weekend, we are incredibly proud to be launching our very first Healthy Pet Day on Saturday 23 May, made possible thanks to the support of our amazing Community Impact Partners Petbarn and Animal Referral Hospital Canberra.

Healthy Pet Day is all about keeping pets healthy, happy, and at home. This special community outreach event will provide free pet support services for Canberra pet owners experiencing financial hardship or barriers accessing care for their beloved animals.

We are beyond grateful for the ongoing support of the incredible Petbarn team, who continue to make a difference as an adoption partner and helping us find homes for hundreds of kittens each year.

A huge thank you also to the amazing Animal Referral Hospital Canberra team, who recently came on board as a Shelter Partner and went above and beyond to save Dave the Bulldog receive the BOAS surgery he desperately needed. Now they are stepping up once again, this time helping support local Canberra pets and their people through Healthy Pet Day.

Partnerships like these, alongside events like Canberra Paws Walk, are supporting animals, and the people who love them when it matters most.

Join us on Sunday 24 May at Canberra Paws Walk and be sure to stop by and say hello to the incredible Petbarn & Animal Referral Hospital Canberra teams who are helping make a real difference for Canberra pets.

Tomorrow is Mother's Day!

We want to take this opportunity to thank all of our human foster mums who selflessly open their homes to all kinds of animals in all kinds of stages of their life.

Currently there are about 180 homes in the ACT housing animals (mostly cats and kittens) while they prepare for surgery, recover from surgery, learn socialisation skills and more.

For perspective, at the RSPCA ACT shelter we currently have space for about 40 cats - so our foster carers are literally QUADRUPLING our capacity, something we are eternally grateful for.

Our super-mum foster carers open up their homes and spend incredible amounts of time with the animals and we know these babies are loved because they come back to the shelter primed, polite (mostly) and ready for adoption.

We love our foster carers, they are at the heart of everything we do and on this Mothers Day, we just want to say, Thank You. ❤️

Happy Caturday!

This is Waffle, he's waiting to be adopted (hopefully today's the day) but in the meantime he wants to remind you that registering and attending the Canberra Paws Walk isn't just good for dogs.

On the big day we are raising funds for all animals in our care, including pigs, turtles, rabbits, ferrets and cats like Waffle.

Of course, it is a dog-walking day so please, don't bring your cat, pig, ferret or turtle because that will set probably the dogs off and cause a level of havoc never seen before in these parts.

But register today and know that just by signing up, you're helping animals get medical treatments, vet checks, vet procedures and whatever they need to have a chance of living a great life.

Register today and save 30% off the entry fee: https://buff.ly/6ZA0DBj

P.S Please adopt Waffle.

Look at this superb cat in need of adoption!

This is Bobby, she's 6 years old and quite clearly has the ability to lay about and relax. We just love these photos taken by one of our volunteers.

Bobby needs her own home. She doesn't really want to share with other cats but she likes people and will come in for a head butt when possible.

She will gladly great you and exit her condo - and despises the idea of gong back inside! We figure this won't be a problem once you have adopted her and she has taken her place as the true ruler of your house.

We have so many wonderful cats here right now, Bobby is just one of many who will love you forever for adopting them.
