🐴 Where did Dr Leo disappear to last week… right in the middle of breeding season?! 🤔

📍 Belgium! 🇧🇪

Dr Leo headed overseas to attend the Equine Symposium on Equine Reproduction (ESER) and the International Symposium on Equine OPU-ICSI-IVF.

The events brought together leading experts in equine reproduction to share knowledge, discuss the latest research and explore exciting advances in assisted reproductive technologies. 🧬🐎

Dr Leo also took part in an Advanced Stallion Management Workshop, further building his knowledge of stallion management and reproductive practices.

💡 Well, that sounds like a pretty good reason for an equine reproduction vet to disappear in October! 😂

Thankfully, we’re lucky to have an amazing team of reproduction vets keeping everything running smoothly while others are away.

A huge thank you to the amazing Drs Ross, Hayley and Emma for covering Dr Leo’s studs as well as their own while he was away. 🙌💙

Bright, happy and nursing… but did your foal get enough antibodies? 🐴🍼
Foals rely on colostrum for their early immune protection, but there’s only a short window for those important antibodies to be absorbed!
A simple IgG blood test can tell us whether your foal has received enough — and identify early if they might need a little extra support. 🩸💪
It’s also a great opportunity for your vet to give both foal and mum a check-up and make sure they’re off to the best possible start. 💙

Welcome to the Murray Vets team Dr Phoebe. Dr Phoebe Christodoulou graduated from the University of Nottingham in the UK in 2025 and joined our team in the winter of 2026. After spending her younger years growing up between Spain, France and England Phoebe decided to make the move across the oceans to join us here in Australia. She loves all aspects of the veterinary world including anesthesia and general practice. With a keen interest in reproductive and foal medicine, Phoebe has spent the last few years working the stud seasons in both Belgium and Australia. Outside of work, you will find Phoebe out on a run or exploring a new beach with a book in hand!

🐴 Better Together: Vets & Farriers in Equine Care

Last month Dr Hayley attended Goodlands Farrier School - Western Australia to assist with the running of the Farriers international testing system (FITS). This examination is an independent certification program designed to elevate the practical and theoretical competencies of professional farriers.

Healthy hooves are fundamental to a horse’s overall wellbeing—and the best outcomes often come when vets and farriers work as a team.

By sharing observations, discussing diagnostics and hoof balance, and coordinating treatment and shoeing plans, vets and farriers can address problems earlier, support soundness, and help horses return to comfortable performance.

Collaboration between vets and farriers isn’t just beneficial—it’s essential to putting the horse first. 🐎🤝

Last week, Dr Michaela one of our specialist equine surgeons, travelled to Fort Collins, Colorado, to attend an advanced arthroscopy and tenoscopy course — focusing on keyhole surgery of the joints and tendon sheaths.
The experience was invaluable, providing the opportunity to learn new techniques, pick up tips and tricks from some of the world’s leading equine arthroscopic surgeons, and gain valuable hands-on experience with complex procedures.
At Murray Vets, we’re always committed to advancing our knowledge and skills so we can provide the very best care for our equine patients. The advanced techniques and insights Dr Michaela gained from this workshop will further benefit both our horses and their owners. 🐴
