Excitement Peeing in Puppies 🐾

Puppy excitement peeing (submissive urination) is very common and usually happens because puppies get overstimulated and don’t yet have full bladder control. Most puppies grow out of it by around 2 years old.

💡 Helpful Tips:

• Stay calm during greetings — no loud voices or overexcited cuddles

• Take puppy outside before visitors arrive or before greeting time

• Ask guests to ignore puppy

• Never punish accidents — it can increase anxiety and make it worse

Patience and calm handling are the keys! ❤️

Enjoy the night 🥰

Practice exercise with your dog.

When giving your dog high-value items such as meaty bones, balls, or favorite toys, briefly take the item away after a short time and then immediately give it back. Repeat this regularly. Your dog will learn that having something taken away does not mean losing it permanently, because it will be returned right away. This training helps prevent Resource Guarding in the future.

However, if your dog stiffens its body, freezes, or gives you a side-eye when you attempt to take the item, do not continue trying to remove it, as there is a risk of being bitten. In these cases, a different training approach is required.

If your dog stays relaxed and does not react negatively when the item is taken away, praise the dog and immediately return the item.

Enjoy your new training

Sunny has finally come into season, and we are planning an AI mating next week with Ted from Scawoo Cobberdog.

Puppies are expected to go to their new families around late September, which is a beautiful springtime here in Victoria. It also falls during the school holidays, giving families with children plenty of time to bond and enjoy their new puppy 🥰

The puppies are expected to be medium-sized, with colors including Red, Gold, Cream, and Caramel, possibly with white markings. We anticipate light brown noses and olive-colored eyes. Their adult weight should be around 14–16kg. Coats will be straight to wavy and are expected to be low-shedding.

Sunny had a litter of 9 puppies previously, so we will be opening reservations for 5 families this time. Emails have already been sent to families who previously expressed interest—please check your inbox.

If you are interested in a puppy from Cedar Lilie, please feel free to get in touch.

Puppy price is $5,900. We do not offer discounts.

We are truly looking forward to seeing the beautiful temperaments that Sunny and Ted will pass on to their puppies.

Jumping barking nipping

If ignoring a behavior is not effective,
ignored is not meaningful feedback for that particular puppy.

Behaviors such as excessive barking, jumping, chewing, and biting can often be managed more successfully with the use of an indoor leash.

When Kara is at my house, she wears a lightweight leash indoors at all times except while sleeping at night.

I personally recommend using a short 1m leash inside the home.

For excessive barking, I use a short 2-minute timeout.

For jumping, I calmly say “No” and redirect her into a sit position. If needed, I may gently lightly touch her side to interrupt the behavior — never kicking or hurting her.

For unwanted behavior around the house, I manage the environment by limiting access and freedom.

For biting or nipping, I use gentle leash guidance and redirection.

Consistency is very important so the puppy can clearly understand expectations.

I always use the same correction words such as “No” or “Wrong,” and when the puppy makes a good choice, I immediately praise using positive markers like “Yes” or “Good.”

This approach can greatly reduce problem behaviors over time. Puppies are not being “bad” or “stubborn” — they are simply learning what is acceptable and what is not.

Training takes patience, consistency, and repetition. Unlike short social media videos, real progress does not happen overnight.

The goal is gradual improvement little by little each day.

If you are struggling with these behaviors, I strongly recommend using a leash indoors to help calmly guide and manage your puppy in a safe and structured way.

Have a great day 🥰

Dog food

Until last year, we didn’t have any
particular issues, but from this year, we stopped using Black Hawk. I had some concerns such as poor appetite, eye discharge, and tear staining.

Sky can eat almost anything, probably because she was fed raw meat as a puppy. However, Sunny has a sensitive stomach—raw meat is definitely not suitable for her, and even homemade meals can cause diarrhea.

So now, for both dogs, I feed Royal Canin kibble and add about 2 tablespoons of cooked meat, eggs, meat or fish oil, canned salmon, tuna, and similar toppings.

Sunny is very active and loves exercise, so I also give her Rose-Hip Vital supplements plus a probiotic supplement.

Some people feed Lyka, some prefer raw food, and others use kibble—everyone does things differently. Personally, I think any option is fine as long as the dog is healthy and thriving.

If Black Hawk is working well for your dog, that’s perfectly fine. But if you notice anything concerning, it might be worth trying a different food.

Hill's Science Diet is also good quality, and it’s a little more affordable compared to Royal Canin.

Wishing you a lovely day!

Barking⠀

When a dog barks loudly ⠀
and the owner yells, “Hey! ⠀
Stop it! Enough! Come back!” ⠀
at the dog, the dog thinks, ⠀
“Mum is joining in! 🥳” and ⠀
feels even more excited.⠀

Are you cheering for your ⠀
dog? 🤣⠀

If you want your dog to stop
barking, the key is to act ⠀
*before* the barking starts.⠀

Some trainers say you can ⠀
praise the dog after it stops
barking, but the timing is ⠀
very difficult. You may ⠀
accidentally teach the dog ⠀
that barking is good and ⠀
gets rewarded, so I don’t
recommend that method.⠀

Before the barking starts, ⠀
give your dog a treat. If ⠀
your dog barks, calmly say ⠀
“wrong” and give a short ⠀
time-out (punishment).⠀

The most important thing is
consistency.⠀

You must do it every single ⠀
time.⠀

Yes, it takes time, and yes, ⠀
it can be frustrating—⠀
but it will reduce the ⠀
barking.⠀

Enjoy your day 😊

Is behavior inherited or ⠀
learned?⠀

Behavior is shaped by a ⠀
mix of three key factors:⠀

1. Inherited traits: Each ⠀
dog has certain genetic
tendencies.⠀

2. Life experiences: The
environment, training, ⠀
and experiences influence
behavior.⠀

3. Current situation: What’s
happening right now can ⠀
affect how a dog acts.⠀

To understand and change
behavior, we need to:⠀

🐶 Know why the behavior happens ⠀

🐶 Understand how the dog ⠀
sees the situation ⠀

🐶 Learn ways to modify the behavior ⠀

Sometimes, behavior changes ⠀
can signal underlying health
issues, like aggression or
depression due to illness or ⠀
injury.⠀

Training and environment ⠀
play a huge role in shaping
behavior. ⠀

Puppies especially can get into
trouble when bored, so lots of
mental stimulation, exercise, ⠀
and training are essential.⠀

Have a great evening⠀
everyone😄⠀

Title: Behind the ⠀
Scenes of a Litter 🐾⠀

Sunny surprised us by going ⠀
into labor early, right on the ⠀
day we were supposed to ⠀
attend a Christmas concert🎄 ⠀

I just knew it was time. Labor
started at 7 PM, and I was fully
hands-on, delivering 5 puppies
before I was completely ⠀
exhausted. My 15-year-old
daughter took over to deliver.

The process is intense: breaking
the sac, letting mom clean ⠀
them, cutting the cord, disposing of
the placenta, changing linens,
cleaning their mouths, weighing
them, and setting them up to nurse. ⠀

Puppies often arrive in the ⠀
middle of the night, taking 15
minutes to an hour between ⠀
each, so Sunny was amazing
to start at 7 PM ✨ ⠀

It’s definitely not just me who ⠀
ends up completely drained ⠀
from the tension and exhaustion. ⠀

I was hydrating Sunny during labor,
and while we didn't need CPR this
time, I still remember holding on
during Sky's last litter. Even when
dealing with a stillborn, I could never
stop trying to save them.⠀

Every birth is a tense experience,
and the moment it’s over, the 24-hour
care begins 😆⠀

Looking forward to our next ⠀
litter in July.⠀

Kara sometimes nips at ⠀
my feet, gets mischievous, ⠀
or follows me around by ⠀
jumping excitedly. ⠀

This is usually a sign that ⠀
she is bored and has extra ⠀
energy she needs to release. ⠀

What should we do in these ⠀
moments?⠀

1. If you have the time and ⠀
energy, grab some treats ⠀
and take her for a walk.⠀

2. Play with her using a ball ⠀
or her favorite toys.⠀

3. If you’re short on time, give ⠀
her puzzle toys, a Kong, or ⠀
a meaty bone to chew on.
(Chewing helps relieve stress ⠀
and provides mental ⠀
stimulation.)⠀

4. On rainy days or when you ⠀
don’t feel like going for a walk, ⠀
do some indoor training instead.
Teach her something new, and
keep each session short⠀
just 2–3 minutes, repeated ⠀
several times throughout ⠀
the day.⠀

By combining these activities ⠀
and helping your puppy feel ⠀
both physically and mentally ⠀
tired, problem behaviors can
decrease surprisingly quickly.⠀

If your puppy is nipping at your
feet or barking excessively, ⠀
please give these ideas a try.⠀

Have a great day ⠀
