You don’t have to live in Sunshine to be part of Sunshine Harvest Garden 🌱

We’re in Werribee South — but our name comes from the Sunshine Harvesters scattered across the farm, and the spirit of people showing up to grow food together.

On Sunday March 1st we’ll be fund-raising from our our veg stall at the garden gate during the Werribee Park Heritage Orchard Festival.

And honestly?
We’re hoping to meet a few future volunteers.

If you’ve been thinking:
“I’d love to learn how to grow food.”
“I want to volunteer, but somewhere real.”
“I care about local food.”

Come say hello.

We’re a small, volunteer-run garden growing organic vegetables using no-dig methods — and there’s always room for one more pair of hands.

Sometimes it starts with buying a bunch of kale.
Sometimes it turns into growing it.

🥔 Potato trial results are in! 🥔

Today we harvested the results of our no-dig potato trial, and we’re pretty thrilled with how it turned out:

✅ Red Foo: 33kg
✅ Dutch Cream: 40kg
✅ Maris Piper: 47kg

All from just 5kg of seed potatoes of each variety, planted back at the beginning of October.

These were grown using no-dig methods — simply laid on the soil and covered with mulch. Even better: they were pulled up by hand, no forks or spades needed! No damaged spuds, and no washing needed! 🙌

A big shout-out to — Melbourne’s potato legends and a regular at markets — for flying the flag for great spuds and inspiring a bit of potato obsession over here 🥔💚

And most importantly of all, a huge thanks to our awesome vollies who helped with both the planting and the harvest — this is what teamwork (and good soil) looks like 💚

💜 This week’s flowers for the Refectory 💜

A soft purple mix harvested this morning from the Sunshine Harvest Garden at Werribee Mansion — chive blossoms, society garlic flowers, and sprigs of flowering oregano.

All grown organically in our no-dig volunteer garden, and arranged as part of our standing weekly order for the Refectory. These blooms bring color, fragrance, and a little bit of garden magic to their tables each week. 🌿✨

Huge thanks to our volunteers who tend, pick, and prepare these beauties — your work keeps this project thriving!

🌱 Garden Expansion Has Begun! 🌱

Some exciting news from the Sunshine Harvest Garden — after months of planning, we’ve officially started expanding our growing space!

The first fence posts went in this week and are now concreted firmly into the ground. Over the next few weeks the rest of the fencing will take shape, marking the start of a much larger area for organic, no-dig veggie beds, flowers, and community projects.

A huge thank-you to our volunteers and supporters who’ve helped us get to this milestone. We can’t wait to share updates as the new garden space unfolds! 🌿✨

🌸 This week’s flowers for the Refectory 🌸

Fresh from the Sunshine Harvest Garden at Werribee Mansion — a mix of cosmos, coriander flowers, and nasturtiums, all grown organically as part of our no-dig volunteer gardening program.

These cheerful blooms are part of a standing weekly order from the Refectory, helping bring a touch of colour and fragrance from the garden to the tables. 🌿

"Ever seen a zucchini big enough to have its own postcode? 🌱😲 Come marvel at our gargantuan garden goodies this Sunday at the Summer Heritage Tree Festival!

We’ll be there with fresh produce, garden wisdom, and all the secrets to growing veggies that could double as gym weights. 💪🥒

If you're after something for the garden, we have a few remaining onion chive, and garlic chive plants, and some worm tea liquid fertiliser to get them kicking along.

Our zinnias are looking pretty spectactular too, so if that's your thing, pick your own posie to take home for just $5.

🌱 Sunshine Harvest Garden will be at the Summer Fruit Tree Festival this Sunday! 🌞

Join us at Werribee Park Community Farm on Sunday, March 2nd, from 10 AM to 3 PM for a day filled with fresh produce, gardening inspiration, and family fun!

This event, hosted by our good friends Werribee Park Heritage Orchard, will be a opportunity to learn all about their heritage fruits, tour their orchard, learn new skills, and even take some trees home for your own backyard,

We’ll be:
🥕 Selling fresh veggies grown by our amazing volunteers 🌿 Running no-dig vegetable gardening demos – learn how to grow food sustainably! 🔍 Hosting a garden scavenger hunt around our veg gardens – fun for all ages!

Come support our community garden, and our friends in the orchard group, stock up on homegrown produce, and pick up some new gardening skills. We can’t wait to see you there! 🌻🍅

We’re back with another free veggie giveaway at the Sunshine Harvest Garden!
