4 team members from both Bonny Hills and Timbertown Vets gave up their Sunday to attend an informative day of lectures put on by AREC (Animal Referral and Emergency Centre, based in Newcastle). Continuing education is vital for us to keep up to date with new treatments and procedures, and is usually done in our own time. AREC are always helpful, taking on our complicated cases and emergencies, and providing timely advice when we reach out. Thanks to AREC and all the attendees.

Bless him. Ollie has been sneezing intermittently for a couple of weeks. Dr Jess investigated under anaesthesia and found an 8cm long, blade of grass, firmly lodged in his nose. That certainly would have tickled!

Grace, one of our amazing vet nurses at Timbertown Vet Hospital, has recently volunteered for a fortnight with Vets Beyond Borders in Fiji, gaining interesting experience in how the dogs live and are cared for by the locals. Ask her about it next time you are in.

Avian Influenza has been in the news, as it a national emergency
animal disease (EAD) notifiable in all Australian states and territories.
It causes severe illness and mortality in a wide range
of bird species, with known transfer to mammals and zoonotic risk
to humans. With the recent cases identified in WA, we are following these guidelines and ask all members of the public who find a sick bird to adhere to. Please be aware that, for the safety of our team, we may refuse to see a sick bird.

This dog is going to be so much happier without the 11 teeth that were extracted. Thanks to dental x-rays, we were able to identify a number of teeth that needed extracting, due to advanced periodontal disease, that was not obvious to the eye on oral examination.
So rewarding for both us, and the dog.
