Logan City Council has changed their Animal Management protocols within Vet Clinic settings, effective the 8th of October 2025.
They will no longer collect from us any day or time of the week, including Saturdays unless they have the resource availability - which is extremely limited and is based on level of importance.
With this being said, unfortunately we have had to make the agreed decision that Cityvet is now no longer able to house any stray animals.
What this means for the finder:
- You are more than welcome to bring the stray animal into our clinics for one of our staff members to scan for a microchip. If a microchip has been found successfully, we will check our systems and attempt to contact the numbers provided.
- If we are successfully able to gain communication with the owner and they are able to collect from us within a few hours, we are okay to keep the animal here until collection from them.
- If we are unsuccessful in either finding a microchip on the animal or getting through to the contact details provided on the microchip, we are unable to keep them here at Cityvet.
- If we aren’t open when the animal is found, you can try an emergency vet clinic to scan the microchip and contact owners.
WHY you may ask?
- Due to animal welfare, we are unable to leave them in small cages for hours on end. Our cages are not only limited, but are also designed for unwell patients who will generally have minimal need for movement around their cages while in hospital with us.
- As our vet hospital is not physically monitored between 6pm & 8am during the week, we are unable to leave them unattended overnight. This is for their own safety in case they were to injure themselves in the cage or something was the happen to the building.
- As we are not open after 1pm on Saturday’s and are closed Sundays, the same reason applies as above.
What to do next:
- Unfortunately, you will have to transport the stray animal to the Animal Management Centre at 213 Queens Road, Kingston for housing until the owner is found.
- You can make social media posts regarding the found animal and (if acceptable) take home to look after until the owner is found.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we have had to implement these changes to Cityvets protocol as Logan City Council has changed theirs.
PLEASE TAKE THIS TIME TO ALSO ENSURE YOUR PETS MICROCHIP ARE UPTO DATE. If you are unsure on whether your details are correct or if your pets has a microchip at all, please contact Cityvet to arrange a time for us to scan and check the details - there is no charge for this.
