All the dogs were very good sports about it and it was a nice added distraction to practice with.

Two whole weeks earth side for Poppy's Litter! 🥰
It's wonderful to see them growing and their little personalities shining through. We have decided to go with Halloween themed names for this litter:

Boo - Blue with less white
Jacko - Black with sleeve
Shadow - Black with narrow white trail
Pumpkin - Tri-colour
Tarot - Black with more white, no trail
Ghost - Blue with more white
Frankie - Black with no white trail

We are seeing the pups' eyes and ears open now, and it's just magic seeing the pups hear and see things for the very first time. They have already had one nail trim and slept through the whole thing which is fantastic since they will get a nail trim about once a week from now on. All the handling and ENS has made them very happy to be picked up plus they were a pretty cuddly bunch to begin with.

While the first two weeks involve what looks to be just a lot of sleeping for the pups, there is actually a lot more going on!

The neonatal period is the first two weeks after birth. Puppies are born with their eyes and ears closed, and with the inability to regulate simple body functions such as body temperature and elimination of urine and faeces. There is almost no difference in brain activity between the time the puppy is sleeping and the time when they're awake. We rely on our great mums to look after the pups and we also sleep next to the whelping box to ensure everyone stays safe. Pups are weighed daily and Early Neurological Stimulation starts from day 3.

Studies have shown that handling and other interaction experienced during the neonatal period can lead to a quicker maturation of the nervous system and an enhanced development of motor and problem-solving skills. Our puppies are exposed to a series of individual handling exercises each day (including ENS) until they join their new families.

During the neonatal period puppies develop an olfactory imprint of their mother and their siblings. The senses of smell and touch are better developed during this period and are the only senses usable by the pups to get information from their outside world. During the neonatal stage our puppies spend as little time away from their mother as possible. Their daily care and enrichment exercises are carried out in the whelping box. The puppies innately crawl in circles moving their head from side to side as to ensure their ability to not go too far away from their mother and to find her for food and warmth. They are constantly monitored as their young life and body is very fragile.

Even before the puppies commence to demonstrate evidence of hearing we commence sound conditioning by using a variety of recordings and also quiet time. This helps them get used to all kinds of sounds that might come up during their lives, including thunderstorms!

Exciting news! 💕

Poppy has had 7 beautiful boys all happy and healthy! The first little one arrived early Sunday morning at 4:20am, and the rest followed not long after. We are a bit sleep-deprived from watching them but so relieved and proud that everyone is doing so well and gaining weight beautifully.

We’ve got two blues, one tricolour, and four black and whites, such a gorgeous mix!

Can’t wait to share more updates and photos soon, the boys are already stealing hearts! 🐾

Arlo Update!

This gorgeous boy has been keeping his family on their toes! From sneaking in for extra cuddles, bringing in “gifts” from the garden, and outsmarting puppy pens and baby gates 🐾 … he’s full of mischief and love.

He’s also smashing his training! He already knows sit, drop, stay, come, leave it, spin, and more 👏 (and often the star pupil at puppy school!).

He's been loving beach trips, forest adventures, and country outings. It sounds like life with Arlo is never boring 💕

I adore getting the updates and this one just made my day 🥰

We've had some wintery weather here lately but Doug and Noddy always enjoy getting out in the mud and checking the horse paddock for fun things to roll in 🤪 as messy as it is I do enjoy watching them have fun 😄
