Do you ever wonder what happens when you drop your dog off for a groom? This is what happens in my salon. My beautiful model in the photos is Clara, a Miniature Poodle.
First Your dog is checked for any knots that I can brush out, which I do. Ears are checked and cleaned. If your dog is heavily matted, or having a very short groom it may be clipped off at this stage. This is just a rough cut and it will still follow the rest of the process.
Desheds are brushed out thoroughly and then follow this process including any trimming requested.
Your dog then goes in the bath where it is shampooed twice then conditioned, using good quality products. I use Secret Weapon and Plush Puppy.
Your dog is then dried. Before drying, I put cotton wool in its ears and a happy hoodie on its head. This helps to cut down the noise, which most dogs hate. Drying is the most challenging part of a groom for a lot of dogs as it feels strange and is loud.
Once dry, your dog is brushed out and clipped to the style requested.
I then clip out paw pads and trim nails.
Then I go over your dog with scissors and trim any bits the clippers missed.
Then it’s on to the head. In my photos, Clara gets her face shaved as she has a traditional pet poodle clip. For most dogs, it is a trim of the face and ears, then a final check over to ensure it looks how I want it to.
I try very hard to keep your dog as comfortable as possible throughout the process but most dogs do not enjoy it which is why they aren’t always bouncing with joy when they arrive.
